My TPMS lights went on today 🙁 Does that make me a bad car enthusiast?

both cars had theirs go on this week. in a month or so I'll have my winter setup without any TPMS so the light will be on for about 4 months.
 
On my dad's Tacoma the spare has TMPS as well so you gotta drop the damned thing down every so often to fill it up. I'm sure most "enthusiasts" never check their spare regardless.

Yeah, my dad was scratching his head for a while too until he figured that one out. I think he just over-inflates it so he doesn't need to do it as often.
 
If you look around you can usually find the TPMS for much cheaper. I paid like $120 for a set of four for my winter setup and they've worked fine. With the shape of the roads here during the winter, I think it was even more useful to monitor them during the winter. Speaking of which, I think this week I'm going to have to put the winter wheels on.
 
for my winter set it was going to be like $300 for TPMS sensors. F-that, i'll just check the pressure more often.
I'll put the wheels off and on as needed, so I doubt they will get a month's total usage each winter. I have a couple of floor jacks and air wrenches and a big compressor for the quick change action.
 
I should check mine again since it is getting colder (I have a 2002 without any retarded TPMS sensors), but they have remained at 35 psi since spring when I adjusted the pressure for the warmer temperatures. When I got them right before last winter, I set them at 35psi and they remained there through the winter.

Oh, and the air was free. That 100% nitrogen thing is a bunch of hooey 😛

ive had my truck for 5 years and never dropped the spare. its the wrong size too, hehe. (225/65 instead of 265/75 thats on it now). i dont have the sensors, and im kind of glad.
 
The whole reason to fill with nitrogen is to have dry air in the tire, thus leading to less contraction and expansion due to condensation/evaporation of water.

Not to ignite a debate or anything.
 
Or just get a moisture trap for your compressor. They say you should check the compressor at the gas station before using it. Many of them have very "wet" air.

The big issue is, get a lot of moisture in the tire and it can condense/freeze overnight. Start driving and you'll hear/feel thud thud thud until it melts. Repeat every night until warmer weather arrives.
