I thought I'd mention that my initial post was based on the fact that P95TT was running smooth and Gromacs blew up on my overclocked 2100+ T-bred B so not just the C1 prefetch is at issue here at least in my mind .

I just started folding a couple of weeks ago and already have found problems with two of my AMD systems. These systems are not OC'd and have been running fine for almost a year. They are an 1800xp and 1700xp. Both of them crashed while folding. Turns out (after RMA) that it was a heat issue. Both had the stock retail coolers. The new one's I recieved have not crashed in a week of 24/7 folding. I must says that the new one's are T-bred "B's". My P4 2.26 oc'd to 2.72 has not had a problem while folding. I am trying to dig up another older Athlon XP to do some more testing.

what about making a copy command and have it copy/paste the GROMACS wu into a sub directory in the working directory
that way, even if the wu is delted, theres a copy of it in the sub directory
..would that work?
(i dont even know if you can code a "copy/paste" command lol...maybe you can in vb or i dunno, maybe c/c++ lol?)

I think the thread was about stress testing the CPU, not the user. 😛

I remember when divx first came out and flaskmpeg was the big kid on the block (is it still?) It would crash frequently on my 300a @ 450 and at 300! The program itself just wasn't stable. I've been somewhat leery of encoding programs as stress testers since then. I take it these programs now have code we can count on?

I can agree that divx and divx codecs can be rather buggy and unstable, but when you can successfully run it all day and not have it crash at same speed with more vcore then it has to be cpu dependent and not software...I never had it crash with my 1.6a B0 stepping chip....I am using same program....

Also I have had it happen with some pretty well-known programs...Autocadd 2002!!!!
