Seems like many didn't care. For those who replied with on topic answer, I thank you very much for your answers. 🙂

I'd say yes, now good use your time machine and get the bastard... ohh wait, you don't have a time machine? Then why do you care?

If I had a wayback machine but unfortunatly I don't sorry.

Isn't 5 years a little long to have buyers remorse?

I would say no. The lack of a better 3D vid card and only a 28.8 modem sucked a bit, but otherwise it looks like it was a very nice system with a big hard drive and a ton of RAM for the time, especially if this was earlier in '98. The Voodoo3-3000 wasn't even available until sometime in early 99.

No remorse, just wanted to know. This computer isn't even active anymore.

yeah...seems like the right price...not a total rip off...but coulda gotten it for better...around then, i got a matrox g200 w/ a pIII 350 mghz w/ 128 megs pc133 w/ 17 inch monitor for about 1500 or so...

What part of the year.

I don't think 17" monitors were cheap.

Looks like @ mid year the cpu was going for between $400-$315 wholesale.

P3 didn't come out until late Feb of '99, starting with 450MHz.

When in '98 did he buy this? That would make a big difference in the price. For example, if this was early in '98, a P2-333 with 128MB PC133 (which was very new at the time, you could just about compare it to having 1GB of PC3200 today) would have been a top-of-the-line system. And 7.2GBs would have been the envy of all your friends in early '98 (as an example, I remember buying an 8.4GB WD 5400rpm-ATA/33 for $150 in April of '99 and it was an amazing hot deal).
edit: I bought my first 17" monitor in August of '97 for $475 wholesale -- just another example.
