The Swedish government has just announced that Sweden is donating $70 million, and we have a population of 9 million... So the US and some other countries could do a lot better.

how much carrier battle groups is sweden sending to help out? 16 ships is more than 20,000 people in the area for the humanitarian operation. This is not including all the air force people that are supporting the planes flying out from Hawaii, Diego Garcia and the US west coast.

We are doing better. Private donations from the US will far outstrip anything anything the goverment will do in the US. Pfizer(yes that mean big phara company) has just put up $35M.

Found it funny that France has donated $175,000 while much smaller countries have donated a lot more.

I found it funny that the EU has donated $57 million and that France is the biggest contributor to the EU budget after Germany or were you thinking that the EU money grows on trees?

They also have their own budget and it appears they have found some money after being laughed at by the world community for their paltry 150k.

I find it extremely funny that some people are doing their normal routine of bashing Europe and France in particulary when these countries are some of the biggest contributors. The latest on tv here was that France was ready to up it's contribution to over 40 million euro ($54 million)

do the math here about the aid provided by European countries and then you can come back with a witty response

btw: you can look in every thread, I don't have anything negative to say about the USA aid

Maybe you should consider the UN fired the first shots about who was being stingy. That is what started this entire debate.

The only contribution that is warrented laughtered is the initiall offer from france

Well the US was the only one specifically named in that comment. At that time, it was the US that had the most aid money ready to give out.

When did disaster relief become a "biggest dick" contest anyway?

Oh, wait, it's when the UN scandal-ridden a-holes started bashing away. Maybe the UN should find some of the money that was embezzled in the Oil for Fools program -- several billion dollars would go a long way to helping disaster victims!
