Hey all,
Recently injured my right arm...a table saw threw a piece of wood back at me and scored a direct hit on my forearm, halfway between my wrist and elbow. At the ER, they did two XRays and saw no break and just set me on my way with a brace wrapped on my arm. All that was visible was a lot of swelling at the point of impact, and a cut that in hindsight might have warranted butterfly closures. This was wednesday night.
Later that night, my elbow was REALLY bothering me, so I started to stretch it out. I heard a terrible tearing noise, but no pain - not even the day after.
Fast forward to today (Sunday) where I've got quite a bit of pain, mostly feeling like it's between the two bones of my forearm, radiating upwards to the outside of the elbow. Rotating my wrist I can feel some popping and A LOT of soreness/pain. Pushing on the middle areas of my forearm reveals quite a bit of tender spots as well. I've tried using an over the counter wrist brace as suggested by the ER, but it doesn't fit well, leaves marks on me and most importantly, rotates my wrist into a position that causes more pain that letting my wrist lay in a neutral position.
The ER's position was my extensor muscles were hit and damaged; the ripping + the pain/popping I feel when rotating makes me wonder if there's a tendon that's been torn as well. Any ideas/experience here? Can a torn tendon heal on it's own, or does that require surgery? How long might I be out of commission? My job is sitting in front of a computer writing code all day, so I'm obviously concerned about getting back to work as well.
Thanks!
