because every time they've brought over cars in the past they've fscked them up before selling them here, so they don't sell well, and then they claim there isn't any demand. horseshit.
 
Ah a pininfarina design. Some of their stuff is kind of boring, but when they get it right the results are stunning. I really like this.

Cuz when domestics do bring their oversees models over here people constantly bitch and complain that it's not a true domestic (ex. Opel -> Saturn).
 
Ford is not retarded. Ford is realistic.

The European market is much more accommodating to upscale small cars than the US market. In addition, the Focus is not a "premium" brand here and can not command the prices that this car would need to sell for.

If you don't need the back seats, Mazda offers a similar hardtop on the Miata.
 
Just buy the Volvo version of that exact car. Critics complain about domestics competing within themselves with duplicate models. Leave the $25K+ convertible market to the Volvo C70 (which is available in the US).
 
They don't bring them over because the base model focus is $23,710.83 at today's exchange rate, even if you factor in VAT, it's still $19,679.98. Thats with an 80!hp 1.4L engine with a 5 speed manual.

Unless Ford moves completely upmarket and thus cannabalizes Volvo and Mercury, there's no market for a $20K premium ford with 80HP. There's no sound economic reason to. In contrast, it's a smarter business move.

3 Door: $23,710.83-$47,213.23(!!) or $19,679.98(80hp gas)-$41,075.51(136hp diesel) if you subtract VAT.

Keep in mind the 3 door is slightly less expensive than the other body styles.

Hell, the Focus ST is slightly less than Civic Si performance for EVO and 350Z money.

Add in the fact that Ford doesnt have the brand cachet and it'll be a dismal failure.

That might work. The only time they've tried that so far is the Mercury Cougar, but that was not a direct version of the Ford Cougar. Ford did alter it for the US market.

Except for the act that europeans and americans have different tastes in cars. No one would buy a $20K, 80hp compact with no HID, no NAV and no cruise control.

Hell to really make it competitive, you'd have to kill of Lincoln too since the prices actually overlap and surpass Lincoln also.

I'm not saying that if it came to America as a more prestigious brand it'd work, I'm saying it wouldn't work in America period.

To option a focus to the level of a Mercedes C class or 1 series, you'd have to hit the exact same price, the difference is that the 128i or C class will have a much more compelling drivetrain and brand name.

There's no place in America for a $40k compact with 145hp or a $20k compact with 80hp.

well that's with the currency exchange rate. they can port the design and build the damn things here can't they?
i'm sure if you import an Evo X from overseas it'll cost a lot when you factor in the exchange rate as well.
 
base price for a 325i in the UK is, just going on exchange rates, $56,491.03.

they're no where near that expensive here. why would you assume that a euro-spec focus would be? heck, ford only warmed over the old US focus to create the new model because they figured it'd be cheaper than bringing over the european one. as it turns out, it ended up more expensive. and that car is still only $15,000.

plus, the market for smaller, more luxurious cars will start booming when we get our carbon taxes.

The Nisan GTR in Japan is 7.8million yen($73K USD), in American, it's $69,875

The EVO X GSR trim is 3495450yen, ($32,724.40 USD) the US MSRP of a EVO X GSR is $33,655 or $34k.
 
I don't understand why don't launch the Mondeo on the US market. It's been praised as a quality car and looks great

change to DOT headlights and bumpers.
lackluster gas engine w/ sloppy auto trans.
soften up the suspension, cheapen the interior...

and you've got a normal american ford focus.
