FORD & UAW to offer buyout for all the 75,000 workers

I heard this rumor a few weeks ago. Dunno how well that is going to work out here. I'm sure they will re-hire the good ones as non-union workers.

I was wondering that myself. If so, good for them. Unions have been strangling the American auto manufacturers for decades. Get rid of them. They are useless.

No, the UAW will still be there, just smaller. I said that because I'm hoping that they did not have 40,000 more workers than they really needed. TO be honest, the people that get buyouts will, most likely, not be rehired, I was just saying that to convince myself that Ford was not that badly mis-managed.

They're offering the buyout to all 75000, but they'll cap how many can accept.

They're offering the buyout to all 75000, but they'll cap how many can accept.

The cap number I heard is 40,000-45,000.

Glad to see some change finally taking place. It was a long time coming that's for sure. Really, they should have done this as soon as the Japanese started building manufacturing plants in the US.

They're offering the buyout to all 75000, but they'll cap how many can accept.

Other way round; cap is 30000 buyouts leaving 45000 union workers.

Actually a lot of the previous packages had stipulations that you cannot be re-hired at ford for x numbers of years. My mom got a package like that - she can't get a job at ford for 5 years, despite the fact that they're hirid for her position again.

Is it so much that they want to reduce the workforce, or they want a more work- and cost-effective force? An old union fart making thirty bucks an hour is a lot less productive than a guy with performance incentives making fifteen to twenty bucks an hour.

The union doesn't have that power. Union employees get laid off all the time.

American auto manufacturers did it to themselves. Now they're paying for their past stupidity. Hopefully they won't make the same mistakes after the UAW dies (if it dies).
