It's American car. It's totally unreliable and will blow up if you try to drive it. It's no Japanese.

Great. The government should give me some of that bailout money that they are going to give to auto industry so I can buy one of these.

Eh, not a huge upgrade to the 2005 model and prob not worth the extra money. Im stickin with my 2005.

I wish they would have done something with the motors to compete with the Camaro, especially since the Camaro V6 is clocking in at 300 hp (Mustang has 210 for the V6 and 315 for the V8). If I had to pick one, the Camaro would definitely have my money.

Well in keeping things fair the V6 mustang is quite a bit cheaper than the V6 camaro I believe.

by $2000, ($20,000 mustang vs $22,000 camaro), so not much. But horsepower-wise, the Camaro V6 stacks up against the GT mustang, so the Camaro is much cheaper.

And America wonders why they can't compete with Japan and Europe. Seriously blows my mind that people still care about all that power if it can't go around corners.

so we have a company that is on the verge of collapse and they show off a sports car model 2 years before it is produced?

and people wonder how they got to where they are.

someone must be confident that their Uncle Sam will help them out.

You think they can design and build a car overnight? 2010 will be out in a year anyways.

😕

2010 means it will be released for sell in 2009.

The 2010 Mustang, which Ford is to reveal today, is expected to be a hit when it arrives in dealerships next spring.

Actually it goes on sale end of spring 2009. So 6 months really.

And actually Ford CEO said they are building their 2009 business/expense models around NOT getting any money from Uncle Sam

Thats very true, and the Camaro is supposed to actually use a suspension system that isn't over 100 year old technology like the stang.

For most people and in most situations, the difference between IRS and solid axle isn't going to be that noticable. I haven't driven a new mustang, but I hear they did a pretty good job with the suspension.

To the people discussing the Camaro above ^^

Mustang V6 = ~3300lbs
Camaro V6 = ~3750lbs

So, the hp difference won't make as big a difference as it would initially seem. The Camaro should be faster, but only a little bit. The 4.0 in the V6 mustang is undeniably weak, and the 3.6 DI V6 in the Camaro is pretty sweet. Camaro would have this in spades if it weren't for the damn thing being so portly. Hell, the LARGE new Maxima for '09+ is only ~3550lbs, complete with 4 doors, 290hp 3.5 VQ, and plenty of entry-luxury features and a very nice interior. Expect high safety ratings as well. If Nissan can do all that with 200lbs less weight, WHY are things like Charger, Challenger, Camaro, etc, so freakishly heavy?

The Maxima is FWD so the drivetrain is more compact then a RWD car.

Hmm. So we're talking a rear diff + driveshaft + IRS = super heavy? I guess that makes sense. I just didn't think it would be enough to make something that should weigh 3200lbs into a nearly 2 ton beast.

It's even less than that: $1,150 ($21,845 mustang vs $22,995 camaro).

But the Mustang name is more common/popular so the price difference will also hurt as well. Don't forget the Mustang/F-bodies number 1 buyer was women and they choose the V6 mostly as well. So all the power this and that means little to the biggest buyer. GM did not figure that out and they had to stop making them as they kept pushing the power angle. While Ford had the mustang with the top down and how fun it is on the weekend etc... ads.

Per Consumer Reports, Ford quality ranks right up there with Honda and Toyota.

Come on man, Roush is much better. Sure its got way less horsepower than the Shelby, but Roush's technology when it comes to handling is way more developed...or at least they took the time to implement it.

Springs, struts, wheels, bigger discs, and a body kit are not technology.

99% of Roush/Saleen cars are cosmetic bling and can't touch a Cobra.

Do any of those cars have IRS? I thought they were all live rear axle? I know for a fact the Mustang is.

The 99-04 Mustant SVT Cobras had IRS, but Ford SVT doesn't exist anymore, and neither do the Cobras. I'm not sure whether any of the current 'tuner' 'stangs - Shelby, Saleen, Roush, etc. - have IRS, but I don't think so.
