How can people not like the Five Hundred? It's spelled out and it's 67% bigger than the 300!

I hate laughing at such a bad joke! ;)

But isn't 500 actually 40% bigger than 300?

No, 300 is 40% smaller than 500. 420 is 40% bigger than 300. Speaking of 420, if you'd quit smoking the doobies you might be able to do some math!

Fanboyism of course. Can't think of any other reason the OP would get his panties in a bunch over a name change. You know Honda changed the name of the Acura Integra to the RSX? Must be desperate.

Get Mazda6 or a Jaguar X-type and you have your mondeo - close enough anyway

Taking a Volvo and sticking an anemic Duratec motor in it is not "improving" it.

Just admit the Taurus is horrible and move on already. I wonder if the new "Taurus" will be priced like a Taurus or priced like a Five Hundred.

Yes, the Taurus is terrible. But, just for verification mind you, could you link to some sales figures proving that claim?

Ahh, the old "It sold so many so it must be good" argument. Kinda like the Ford Escort, or Chevy Corsica, or Chrysler K-car...

BTW, what color is your Taurus?

I've always been a fan of Pinkley Motors, and their "Pinkly Taurus"...

Otherwise, the Taurus always represented a crappy car, with a bad repair record. The 500 brings to mind an earlier age, when the Ford 500 was a pretty decent car.

I don't see what everyone's problem with the Taurus is....My family had two a 93 and a 99...and they both performed excelently!

you guys are soo young.

do you have ANY clue what the Taurus is to Ford History and US Car history?

it is the car that singlehandedly put Ford on TOP of the automotive world for about 10 yrs in the mid 80's.

the Taurus is a very very important model for Ford.

Not really. The 500 is a very good car, it just has too small of an engine for its size.

500 just doesn't cut it compared to a camry. its been a long time since that rivalry was between more or less equals...taurus lost during the 90's. and you can still see early 90's camrys on the road looking relatively decent. i haven't seen a 90's taurus in ages, and when i still did they tended to look horribly beaten, paint shredding off etc. i just remember my parents were shopping between those two cars back then, i guess its good they went with the camry..even though i thought the taurus looked slightly better at the time.

Won't make much of a difference. I'm probably representative of its ideal target market - upper 30s professional who wants a comfortable commuter car and family hauler, and after getting one as a rental once I wouldn't even consider it. Not only is it not in the same league as a Camry, Accord, or Outback, it's not even close.

it's not in those cars' class either. it's distinctly larger than any of them. it's avalon/impala sized.

Yeah the 500 is supposed to be an alternative to a Crown Vic for old people not a midsize sedan? Its a LARGE sedan so I also don't get why you call it a Taurus ,a former Midsize.
If anything restyle it and name it LTD

I've always viewed the Taurus as an old people's car and disliked it because of that.

Guess I'll have to stop liking the way the five-hundred looks.

I personally think this is a bad move. Either way, it's not going to make me buy their cars, but whatever.

As if it couldn't get worse...

Ford has also renamed the updated 2008 Mercury Montego to ? can you guess? ? the Mercury Sable. The Freestyle crossover for 2008 becomes ? less predictably ? the Malcolm, er, Taurus X.

hmmm there is another Ford that Ford America could market....especially considering the positive reaction to the Pontiac G8, I suspect this particular for could do very well in the US, after all it has done very well in Australia for the past 40 years and current models are considered superior to the GMH VE Commodore in which the Pontiac G8 is based on.

but then again....you guys would only change it's name and claim that it was designed and built in the US...and worst of all fvck up the styling with ugly bonnet vents and grills.

Maybe the Ford Falcon should remain an Australian only car...you guys don't deserve it.
