I'm pretty sure the 345 Horse, 350CID V8 in the 97 C5 was rated at 36 MPG....

Even under the old way the EPA rated mileage I find that very doubtful. With the more recent way of rating mileage it comes out at only 25 highway if you've got the manual transmission.

I could consistently avg 29-30mpg with my 99 WS6 with a six speed on the interstate. Only mods were a non-OEM paper air filter and a catback flowmaster exhaust. C5 Vette guys claimed even more which is believable (for me at least) since it was the same engine with even less drag.

Granted, they weren't rated at that.

This is like the old EPA ratings before 2008. I had a 06 Impala SS before I got my 08 Civic and even though the Hwy said i could get 28, I averaged around 17MPG and never got over 24 and I absolutely babied the thing to get mileage out of it. Stomping on it got me around 12.
