None in their right minds would buy something like that when there are billions of used cars on the market with plenty of life left.

I think there would be more than you would think but I agree that many people would never consider it.

i agree, way too many used cars have unknown problems and searching months for a good one still doesn't guarantee you anything, and theres till 50% change theres shit wrong with the car.

If you know nothing whatsoever about cars maybe, but anyone with even a basic mechanical understanding and the intelligence to so some research and have a mechanic perform a thorough inspection can easily find a used car that will be just as reliable as a new one.

will you know if my car that u want to buy has gotten into an accident if i've replaced everything with OEM stuff and never reported any accidents? will a mechanic really do a detailed 500pt inspection to ensure the frame is not compromised? do u know not everyone reports their accidents?

just because you think you know everything doesn't mean u know the detailed history behind a random used car. Can basic mechanical understanding tell you the difference if i've had sex in the back of my car everyday? 😉

Come on LOUISSSSS, don't bring up arguments that are just stupid.

OK.....just suppose you got all OEM parts from your dealer, about the only real supplier of true OEM parts for the body.

You replaced your grille, hood, door, bumper, whatever body parts you managed to damage on your own.

Now, how'd you do that factory look OEM paint job with spray cans you bought at Auto Zone? I only ask because very few if any backyard mechanics will be able to replicate, without any visible traces, the factory paint job on the rest of the car, such as exactly matching the old paint on the rest of the car. Take the car in anywhere to have it done professionally and there's a record.

And shadetree mechanics have great difficulty hiding the signs of other damage repair, such as exactly matching underhood painting, sealant replacement so it doesn't look different, etc.

And any decent mechanic, once the car is in the air, can spot half assed repairs done.

As for the sex in the car......you so sure your brand new car hasn't been used for that?

If a car was hit hard enough to crumple, twist, or bend the frame, there should be obvious signs of damage even after repairs were made. The seams between body panels won't match, the car may rattle or drift / not steer correctly, etc. Any good mechanic should be able to point that out to you fairly easily.

By the same token too many new cars have unknown problems and searching for months for a good one still doesn't guarantee you anything other than a 3 year warranty. There are plenty of examples of customers having problems with a new car that factory trained mechanics couldn't properly diagnose or repair, not to mention factory recalls that are abundant and other known problems that often do not become apparent until the vehicle is just out of warranty.

I'd rather have a used car with a few miles on it, I'd rather see that a few things have gone wrong and the problems were corrected than have to deal with problems myself. I'd be hesitant to buy the first generation of any vehicle and I'm not likely to buy the first model year of a second generation. I like vehicles with a legacy, unfortunately it appears that most americans and american auto-makers have different preferences, there are very few vehicles in current production that have been built for more than a decade. Trucks and passenger vehicles that were used as fleet vehicles are about the only models that have more than a few years history. It's no surprise that these are some of the most reliable and easy to diagnose and repair.
