Safety/Emission issues/cost to upgrade are usually the reasons why they don't bring cars over.

there are very few americans that will pay $40k for a performance hatch. and yes thats what this would have to cost to be sold here.

Looks nicer than our Focus, but I wouldn't pay $40k for it either.

I understand the economics of it... It's just frustrating because we know that Ford is capable of building pretty cool cars, but chooses not to for the US market.

Yeah, I'm with you.. I basically don't like Ford because we only get the standard American automatic dull non-performance junk like the current fugly POS Focus.

the top of the line evo is that much.

The MR is for $40k but the Focus is instead FWD. American consumers expect more for $40k. At $40k, a FWD car is a very hard sell when a 335i base is around there and so is the EVO MR. Then for a 1 price range up, there's a Corvette, Boxster, Cayman, Z4 sdrive35i and Elise up there.

Europeans enjoy FWD near luxury price hatchbacks, in the US, Ford would have trouble moving it against the competition where Americans love our RWD and AWD so much more (I'm probably forgetting quite a few more competitors out there).

Yeah, if Ford could make that same car AWD for the same price, it might have a chance. Still, it's amazing how the same brand could be so sexy looking in Europe and so blah in the US.

So BMW's don't fall in the same price point as a Focus RS500 in Europe? I'd think if anything a Beamer would be cheaper in Europe since they don't have to ship them across the ocean. Who would buy that instead of a nice three series? Given the choice I wouldn't.

No. No it wouldn't.

The new Focuses are world cars. They are nearly identical on both sides of the pond. Emissions, etc etc, are nearly the same.

That 40K you're seeing is because there are only 500 being built. This isn't a limited run - it's an insanely limited run.

The Shelby GT 500 Mustang is $40k. Do you seriously think a Focus with some souped up components would be the same?

Cars in Europe / England tend to be FAR more expensive than over here. Over here, this would price in the high $20's low $30's. I wouldn't be surprised to see SVT come out with something very similar, perhaps with one of the lower displacement ecoboosts they are starting to make. I'd guess within the next 3 years.

I fly to NYC tomorrow morning and I'll be working the Ford display at the NY auto show - I'm guessing I'll be asked "when is Ford bringing the RS over" about twice a day. :p

The current RS runs @ £27500 starting price, which at current exchange is ~$41,000. This special edition will be more expensive, but they should be careful, becuase if you get to £35k you're into used e92 M3 territory, and I know what I would choose...

Be honest...even if the Ford produced 500 HP, you'd still pick the BMW. :awe:

Why? Despite having more power you're paying 40K for MS3 performance.

No thanks and this model is undoubtedly even more expensive and probably can't use that extra juice except at illegal speeds.

Supposedly this Revo Knuckle garbage keeps the torquesteer under control and doesn't cut power, sounds great except in the end you end up with MS3 numbers which does limit power in the lower gears.

Awesome.......errr....something.

Which MS3 has 350hp?

Talking about the base car in the first line and it puts down MS3 numbers, ~5.8 0-60 or thereabouts.

Adding more power to this equation just exacerbates the problems, this thing probably barely breaks into the high 13's for...what 45-50K USD?

Fail.
