Brother in law has a 500. He's had it for a couple of years. He's owned a Mercury Sable's before that ... Essentially, it's the same car just with some newer features.

Anyhow, it should be very reliable, albeit "boring."

No, it's a completely different platform. The only thing remotely similar is the engine.

I think what he meant was same in feel.

OP, for comfy and huge, you really cant do any better than Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car.

Those things are bulletproof, reliable and able to go forever, softer and more comfortable than almost anything else and with decent power (239hp V8). You should be able to find 2005 Town Cars with ~50k miles for $15k or a 2007 with 30k mile Grand Marquis.
