That seems really cheap for that car. Perhaps they depreciate more than I expect, but I doubt I would buy a 'fleet' car unless I knew exactly where it came from. Otherwise it's a pretty decent car, also massive. I think 07 gotta a better engine.

Verify the previous owner - with that high of mileage it may have been a fleet vehicle. With that in mind - check out the service history.

CVT is not as robust as the 6spd auto that was available in the FiveHundred or Montego.

They are huge - interior is massive and the trunk is good for 3-4 dead bodies.

lol i like huge cars, she usually doesn't but liked these when she saw them on the lot i guess, the lot sells mostly "fleet" cars...

i had one as a rental and was nice.

but yeah not really sure where it came from exactly. but i assume they are hwy miles considering theres 98k in 3 years?

how are commercial fleet vehicles generally? b

I've sat in one (in the back seat) for about half an hour. It's not going to rival Cadillac, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc. for luxury, but it was a nice car none-the-less. It was very roomy, and any car with rear heat / AC vents gets an extra plus in my book. :p The car I was in may have been fully optioned though, I'm not sure.

The driver's area of the interior reminded me a lot of my Fusion. IIRC, it comes with the same 3.0L, 221 HP V6, which is more than plenty for a family sedan. It's larger than my Fusion, though, which I wasn't a fan of.

They are holding up really well. Go to a Ford dealership, go back in the service department and ask the mechanics what the common problems are.

any opinions?

how do these cars hold up?

Why don't you just get a Taurus? I'd be it would be more reliable than the 500... less things to break.

The 500 was renamed "Taurus".

Wasn't the 500 renamed Fusion? Or the other way around? I thought the 500 = Fusion.

No.

The 500 is now the Taurus. The old Taurus body was produced until 2007, and the new model was called 500 until then. Fusion is a completely different car.

I don't know if I would get one with the CVT trans. My dad bought one about 6 months months ago and its already had to have the trans computer reset twice and now it is sitting in Goergia, he lives in Wv, waiting on a new throttle body which I think is CVT specific. They gave him a rental which he has now put 5000 yep five thousand miles on while waiting which should tell you how long he has been waiting :). Other than that its a pretty nice running and driving car and the cvt is pretty neat when it was working but I think I'd go for the regular auto.

Both cars are excellent in terms of reliability - they hold up well. The 2010 Taurus is a completely different car (different chassis), but the older 500's / Taurus's are the same.

The fusion is a completely different platform and is much smaller.

Fleet car should lower the price but I would not avoid a car simply because of that. The bark is louder than the bite in terms of reliability issues for post-fleet vehicles.

Cost?

Anyway, the 500 IS a (new) Taurus, albeit with a CVT. They're very nicely (if somewhat boring to many) detailed cars IRL and the V6/CVT combo, while buzzy, gets quite decent gas mileage for a car that size w/o being dog slow.

The wife's dad bought her a fleet 2005 taurus with 42k on it for around 9k or so 2 years back. No issues thus far, has around 70k on it now. The interior is starting to fall apart, but I blame ford more than the "fleet" status it has. No major issues with it.

no, it's not. it's the ford D3/volvo P2 platform that debuted back in 1999 with the volvo S80. i assume it's been substantially tweaked since then. but it's not completely different.

It's got the same name, and the same supposed platform. But trust me, it's basically a whole new chassis. (Check my ip address if you like for proof....). Far stiffer, much better impact resistance, the list goes on forever.

I just wish the new one cost a bit less.

Wasn't one of the fleet companies found to be disabling certain standard features on cars? Side airbags, if I remember correctly.

Enterprise rental car bought Chevy Impalas without side airbags in order to save costs.
