Viper GTS

IMO it looks better than the restyled Viper.

You are too young to have any taste ;)

Even though I despise Fords, the GT and the original GT40 from the sixties look damn sexy.

I'm young enough that the Viper was my first case of vehicle lust.

And a decade later it is STILL the benchmark by which this Ford will be measured.

So eat that.

:p

I didn't say it was better, I said it looked damn sexy ;)
(Much better looking than the Viper---HA !)

Remember that the GT 40 was running around the race tracks in the mid sixties eating up ferraris long, long before the Viper was ever even dreamed of.

I'll agree with you there on his lack of design taste:p The old Vipers looked EXCELLENT, especially the GTS. The new one look like a lump of sh!t.

This GT40 looks JUST like the car that OWNED Ferraris back in the sixties and it is STILL sexy!!! Best looking car from Detroit in a while.

Ohh, and this car WAS the performance benchmark, so what are you talking about Viper? This car came out WAY before the Viper was ever a gleam in Lutz's/Eaton's eyes. The Viper was conceived as a look back to old American racing cars like the Shelby Cobra Daytona and the GT40.

Rowr! IMO this is a brilliant hallmark product for Ford, even if they sell very few and lose money on each one. The original GT40 is one of the classic American performance cars, and has among the richest racing legacies in our nation's history. The new car appears to be worthy of the GT40 tradition in every way. The Viper is a modern classic, but it has nowhere near the history of the GT40 nameplate. To me, the new GT40 is clearly one of the most desirable cars in the world.

I'll second that;)

Viper can have his Viper SRT-10, I'll gladly take an original GT40 or one of the new GT's (they can't name it GT40 now b/c some guy bought the rights to the name).

is an aluminum version of the company?s 5.4-liter dohc V8. The engine, which gets a supercharger to produce at least 500 horsepower in the GT, will be available as a normally aspirated crate motor for sale on the aftermarket

Ok... that's prolly induced some major droolage among many tuners... Ford usually leaves room for a pulley for more boost! Also, that crate motor... I'm guessing if it's similar to the long block of the engine in the new Aviator it's going to make plenty of power even without boost. Someone's gonna slap a nice set of turbos on that... shove it into a Mustang and embarrass Cobras.

However, I doubt most people that can afford GT40 will know how to tune them or even drive them. Leno's & Nic Cage prolly got them on order already. The Viper SRT-10 costs... less?

EDIT: spelling grammar

They should price it to compete with the Viper IMO

It's bad enough the gaps between the Viper and Corvette are so far apart...

The program?s tight schedule required the engineers to use about 15 percent off-the-shelf hardware, including the steering column from a Ford Focus.
Ah ha! Maybe this car has more in common with the Viper than I thought ;)

Do you have a time machine by any chance?

On Nov. 12 the team finished building its first of nine running pre-production development prototypes, based entirely on computer designs?a first for the company.

Nah, it's fuggin gorgeous... Though it is a rip off of a Lamborghini Muira

Edit: Actually, I'm mistaken. The muira was designed and built in '71, so that would make it a rip off of the orignal GT40, which was built in the mid 60's

I can't imagine this car being able to eat vipers for lunch. they do afterall have the same HP rating.
but to add again... i think this car is a beauty.
and pre 2003 vipers look better. :D

It depends on how much it will weigh. The Viper SRT-10 is around 3330 lbs IIRC. The GT's body is made of aluminum with an aluminum space frame I believe. If they can keep the weight around near the Z06 (and that HP at 500 or better as they say), it should have no trouble toasting Vipers.

:( sniff :(

I'd rather them crash a few in the factory than let me do it after I buy one and find out too late that it's not a safe car.

I wonder if the'd sell the crashed ones to me for cheap?
