Forcing 5.1 on stereo

I have something in stereo format and want to listen it through my 5.1 setup. I just want all channels to have the same volume level during playback. Is it possible?

Depends on your preamp or receiver. My B&K has a setting called Stereo 6 or Stereo 7, depending on how many speakers you have connected, that cranks all the speakers you have hooked up. Sounds awesome.

I used to use a NAD T752 receiver that had a mode called Enhanced Stereo 1 that did something similar.

Most good receivers also have a similar mode.

Sorry, if I may have given you guys the wrong impression. What I meant was on my computer, how can I accomplish this? I have the Creative SB Live! 5.1 and the Altec Lansing 251. Thanks.

again it depends on the speaker set up...
my logitech 5500s can do it...
2x stereo is what the mode is called..
