Forcing 1400x1050 resolution

I have a GF3 Ti200 and running WinXP. How can I force my resolution to 1400x1050? I've edited the nv4_disp.inf file and reinstalled the drivers, but no luck. I've found some registry keys and changed them, but still no luck. It always boots back up in 1280. I can't get powerstrip to let me do it either.

Does your monitor even support 1400x1050?

Also, try to either change to 1024x768 or 1600x1200, and that way you'll have the same resolution on both laptop (my guess where you originally have 1400 x 1050) and desktop.
 
i just use old nvidia drivers and edit them. i think i'm using 21.83 or something like that. 1400x1050 roxors on a 19".
 
I just edited the nv4_disp.inf file and added 1440x1080 res and it worked the next time. (ver 15.70)

Try uninstalling your previous drivers before installing those. sometimes the old file gets left over.

I'm not sure how well my monitor will handle 1400, but it's a CRT, not a fixed resolution LCD. It can handle resolutions much higher than 1400, so it shouldn't have a problem. My laptop's resolution is 1400x1050, so that is what I want to run my desktop monitor at.

Are you running XP? I have been thinking that XP was trying to be overly user friendly and preventing me from setting my "odd" resolution.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'll post again after I try some older drivers. I've tried the 23.11's and WHQL 23.12's so far.
 
Alright, it worked! Uninstalling the 23.12's and using modified 21.83 drivers did the trick. 1400x1050 looks great and is perfect if 1600x1200 is too small (even on my 22" monitor).

Thanks for suggesting the older drivers. I just so happened to still have them laying around on my drive.

Be sure not to exceed the refresh rate limit for your tube at that resolution. Stick to what your tube can handle at 1600 and you'll be fine.
