When I plug in certain hardware, Windows 2000 automatically installs the driver it has. Is there anyway to force Windows 2000 to prompt for a driver instead of automatically installing the driver it has?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hans,

It depends on what hardware you're talking about but I usually just edit the registry (i.e. HKLM\Software\NVidia for my video card).

You can also just let Win2K load it's own driver then go to Device Mangler and update the driver.

Let us know how you make out.

The problem with letting it load the default driver is that the default causes Win2K to bluescreen on installation :(

Win2K bluescreens as the driver is being installed. Once it reboots, it has no knowledge that the driver was ever installed. Damned annoying.
