Force fields are real and about to be deployed in Iraq

Yes, it's been beaten and beaten again...

This is as much a "force field" as much as a patriot missile. It's simply meant to intercept and detonate RPGs and the like before they get close enough to pierce armor. The only field involved in it is the radius of the radar used to sense incoming targets. Calling it a forcefield is definitely a cheap attempt to make the story palatable, and grossly exaggerates the capabilities of the technology. When you realize it's not really a forcefield, the limitations they mentioned in the story are only obvious.

Nonetheless, it's interesting and destined to save lives of the enlisted.

Supposedly 3M accidentally made an electrostatic force field in one of their manufacturing plants. search for "3M electrostatic force field" and you find some stuff. This was several years ago, and a complete accident.

I am sure you were all hoping to see some type of thing like in starwars eps 1 and were dissapointed. But hell this is better than nothing.

Only thing here that i disliked was the fact that I had gotten excited over something less.

sort of along the same lines...what movie was it in that some planes fired missles at an aircraft carrier, which unloaded some super fast machine gun type tracer ammo on them and took them out of the air? i've been looking for that clip for a while 🙁

I think thats the Phalanx(CIWS).

Well, you see, FOX news listeners react much better to a "force field". You know, "weyall, with super dooper technoalagay like dis force-feeyald, we can cetch us more of dem terrrrorists."

this is NOT reactive armor- all reactive armor is, is armor platings that explodes on contact when something hits it. This system actually fires something at an incomming projectile to dismantle it.
