when it says you have a forbidden word, and you go back, take out whatever and hit submit again, it says you cannot post a message twice. why?

What a stupid comment......
About 2 months ago I was posting in a thread discussing some company and I was saying their business plan looked like AllAdvantage's business plan. Well at the time AllAdvantage was a forbidden word because back in the day people would try to refer everyone on the site so they banned the word. Well AllAdvantage has been out of business for a long time so it was pointless having the word banned.
I of course got the message saying it was banned. No way I could have known it was still banned but had to go through the hassle.
What was AWESOME was the fact that I PM'ed a MOD and they quickly took care of the problem(removed alladvantage as a forbidden word).
You can't possibly know every word that is forbidden here.
They're also nice about not being too picky with the filter. Understandably, they filter the to-poke-with-a-sharp-object word, but their software doesn't mind if you say constabulary. 
Now, I've never understood why they filter the term that refers to a bulging men's money containing object, but perhaps it is due to similar issues such as those with that AllAdvantage thing. Anyway, I guess they'd explain if they felt it was important for us to know.

IIRC, Anandtech gets the most hits on the Hot Deals forum. With the possible exception of tbargains (and maybe not even them), I doubt those other forums see the same number of hits. I don't know this for a fact. It is an assumption, hence the question mark at the end of my previous post.
i can understand (understand, not agree with) censoring curse words. but censoring things like fat wallet and all advantage? that's pretty ridiculous. this forum kills me sometimes.
I TOTALLY understand censoring alladvantage. You must have not been around when alladvantage was around. People were trying to post their reference number every 15 minutes. It got quite annoying. The only solution was to make it a forbidden word.
It all boils down to the members, abuse a word or phrase to the point of insanity and WHAMMO, banned word.

1) Simply hit the "back" button; 2) COPY the text including the "banned" word; 3) hit "back" again to get to the "reply" page and 4) Reply (again and) PASTE your reply (deleting offending word).

i suppose that suggests that this forum will never "rise above" where it is right now, if the members take advantage of things like children sneaking around their parents' rules. i think alot of the problem is the anonymity of the moderators. there is no accountability, and lots of shady things happen because of that. yes, i have heard all of the arguments for it, but personally i don't agree with it. the vast majority of other forums do not do this. when you can personally speak with an individual moderator, and deal with them as an individual, it creates a relationship of trust and respect. the anonymous moderators in this forum create an atmosphere of fear and mistrust. i also believe the insanity of ATOT is in relation to said anonymity. instead of people coming to an understanding with moderators about what is acceptable and what is not (and therefore not doing insane things, because they respect the moderators and do not wish to lose their relationship of trust), people run around pushing and pushing, seeing what they can get away with. i'm not saying ATOT is the worst "chat" forum on the internet, and i'm not saying AT forums are the worst forums on the internet, but i think the anonymous moderators are a huge problem. look at ars and look at AT. the difference in quality of posts is amazing. then again its 5:40am and i am tired and rambling...must get to sleep...
Well seeing that you are comparing AT forums with others, how do you explain Hard Forum ?
They have moderators that are not hidden, how do you explain that ?
How many members does ARS have ?
How many members does AT have ?
There are many other factors you are not considering when you made the above statement, you must view all the forums as a whole and not base your judgments on just one issue.
I agree with anand's view point on how the forum is run, if the members acted with any type of maturity and did not abuse their privileges, the problems we (as a community) would be greatly be reduced.
You also have to realise that AT is a lot more famous than the other sites, therefor it is logical that you are going to see more riff raff joining up because of it.
