You and me both, my friend.

I worked with a guy who was proud of the fact that he worked 70 hours per week on average. He even had a poem hung up in his cubicle from his 9 year old son that said he wished his dad didn't work so much. It was almost like a big "FUCK YOU" to his kid.

I vow never to be like that guy.

I spend more time being unemployed vs employed. So I had no problem picking up 70 hours during a few projects on my last job. Coworker always told me I pushed myself too hard I needed to chill out. I didn't, I pushed myself harder.
He was the one who got bumped up to full-time permanent, and my hours got the axe.

I have done this several times. People who work hard always seem to get fired first. The person who takes 3 sick days every single month without exception is never fired.

I was like that guy at one time, though I didn't brag about it. I was more like "Damn it, I am tired of all of this work."

One day I came to my senses and decided that I would work my 40 hours a week (except for rare special projects or emergencies) and that would be the extent of it. I am much happier now. Working all those hours may have gotten me decent raises, but mainly, it got me even more work and heavy doses of sunshine blown up my butt by management.
