Though he did start making consistently excellent and epic role choices, starting with Catch Me If You Can. Most of his roles were excellent before that as well, but things really changed when he started collaborating with Scorsese.

yeah. Scorsese has essentially replaced DeNiro with DiCaprio.

that should tell you something.

and i don't know why people liked Shutter Island...I thought it sucked. :\

It's basically Scorsese going outside of his wheelhouse to capitalize on the current mainstream trend.

It doesn't make any sense. :\

Oh, and I'd like to take this opportunity to say:
Woody Allen is the most overrated human being in the history of human beings.

Bruce Willis
These were all good movies with him in it:

The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
RED

While I do like Willis, just because the movies good doesn't mean the actor in it was any good. Example: I love "The Rock" even though Nick Cage is in it. Just because he lucked out and got in a good action movie with Connery doesn't mean he's good.

While there's no obvious "great acting" by him in The Sixth Sense, it would have been difficult for anyone to pull it off so well if the actor knows the twist ending (
the movie ends and credits scroll up the screen
).

People pan on Cage, but then there's Leaving Las Vegas, which is one of the best dramas of that decade.

Yeah, usually he sucks, but sometimes he'll surprise you.

Almost Famous? You mean the Cameron Crowe flick with Kate Hudson and Billy Krudup? what does that have to do with SNL?

I think he meant to say: "Almost Heroes"

I believe that's the one where Chris Farley died during production.

Why no mention of Beverly Hills Ninja? :sneaky:

He obviously means "Almost Heroes," the one that was finished and released after Farley died.

The point is, I see a lot more more reasons to avoid his recent works.

My point is; given good script, he can definitely act. There are a lot more actors who can't seem to act no matter the script... like Orlando Bloom, Adam Sandler.. etc.

:D

The great thing about that was that Willis was the perfect casting decision for that role. he had already been well-established as
the invincible action hero who can not die. No current audience at the time would ever expect him to be dead.

Shamalamadingdong went the other direction with his next flick, of course, and made Willis
invincible. uh...again

Never heard of it. I liked Farley for the most part on SNL, but never really got into him through his films. He was the annoying and less funny version of John Candy.

Can't believe I'm the first to say Johnny Depp.

This is totally wrong IMO. Depp should have at least a few oscars right now. Oscar worthy performances include Edward Scissorhands, Blow, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny and Joon, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I could name another 10-15 films that I thoroughly enjoyed as well. Guy is a legend IMO.

Yes, I had meant "Almost Heroes", the film with Matthew Perry set as a "race" against Lewis and Clark.

I forgot about Beverly Hills Ninja.

Can't believe that Keanu Reeves was only mentioned once.

He had Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures and The Matrix. He was even bad in those.
