I am only 20 but I started off at agn3d about 6-7 years ago! I lived at that place, and then it shut down and now I am at anands. (but not NEARLY as often as I would like to be as cars have taken over my life along with school and gf') haha

Back in those days I was too busy carrying out illegal activities in certain AOL chat rooms.

Ahh yes, the days of Mass Mails, Phishing, and the dreaded Cat Watch! lol

Same here. I came to AT from AGN3D. That was back when I had a Diamond Stealth II S220 (Rendition Verite 2100) + Canopus Pure 3D 6MB (3Dfx Voodoo 1)

Ahh those names.... they bring back memories. 🙂

I still don't like Anandtech 🙂

My first trade on AGN was with Red Dawn. I sold him a Diamond Fireport40 that I bought because it was a good deal. Once I realized that I would probably never buy a SCSI hard drive, I decided that I didn't need a SCSI controller card.

I'm also a WMC (wounded monitor child) from the buy.com price mistake on a 19" monitor. I'm pretty sure that was back in the AGN days.

I remember reading articles on AGN...and tearing up quake servers with my 3dfx voodoo1 add-on card. I'm pretty sure I was using a 28.8 at the time through IDT...boy what a waste...

I came here from the MSNBC forums before they closed them. Those were some really messed up forums because you could post anonymously 😉

I used to have a Monster Fusion vid card. I believe that was a voodoo banshee and it rocked. It was my first 3d accel. card and it made duke nukem 3d and quake 1 run FAST.

I pretty know much the whole history of AGN3D. - Started when Jeremy Allford was with Operational 3dfx. He had a quable with a couple of guys and he decided to started AGN3D. - It was pretty much Jeremy and another guy(Josh something I believe) who ran the site. After a while Josh was pretty much in charge cause Jeremy got sick. - The Infamous Caputo tried to rip off Josh on a monitor and that was a big deal. - It was Josh that started the For Sale forum and that forum became THE FOR SALE FORUM. - AGN3D tried to do the LIVE video thing for a while and that failed. - It was around this time when Jeremy got really sick and AGN died also. Don't really know what happenned to Josh. - Not too many people know how Heatware got started. Alot of the traders wanted some type of evaluation form and Heat volunteered to create some type of feedback. On the help of Rage(it was actually Rage's brother who created the program) they created Heatware as as it is now. Thats just from the top of my head.

yuppers! i remember ALL this in vivid detail 😉 i got a couple emails from caputo myself trying to sell 21" sony monitors..he would browse the forums for new members and then just email them..

ah yes.. agn.. i loved the FS forums there... all those everglides....

i remember talking to rage (jamie).. wonder what happened to him. His brother used to own the domain sonicblue and then "some company" bought it 🙂 He used to have elitehardware.com... i remember he gave me an email account 🙂 or something like that.

oh.. anyone still on the AGN ICQ hub thing? i remember all the mass mailings for stuff for sale there... heh... i haven't signed onto ICQ in quite some time.

i had forgotten about the horror traders...

well, i'm both, sorta.. more on the AT side, but traded on AGN much more 🙂 I've been reading anands stuff since he first started wwwwwwwaaaaaayyyy back when 🙂

I remembered the AGN hub thing. At first it was neat, then it became an annoyance.
I used to leave it on 24/7 and then I come back and find tons and tons of messages.

My whole history in the intarweb message boards started at a place called CPU-Central. It was there that I first learned the ins and outs of my PC hardware. I found out how to OC my AMDK5 PR133 🙂 From there, I made my way over to AGN3D, but eventually I found AT. I kinda posted between AT and AGN for about a year or so, and then totally switched to AT when fusetalk was introduced in 1999. So I guess I was hagning around AT in about late '97 - '98.

Thats my story.

Boy, that takes me back! I loved AGN3d! My story sounds pretty similar to yours, in fact. First started reading AGN3d 5-6 years ago and slowly migrated to AT. Now I'm a sad, sad panda 🙁 😛

I'm more middle school i guess...I fell into this place from amdmb.com and lurked on this place (well Hot Deals) forever before getting an account. Seemed to be back then that Anand posted quite frequently...

heh, I had the Canopus Pure3D too. I searched high and low for that card locally. And then I upgraded to a Diamond Viper V550 (NVidia TNT; which I still use now). Ironically enough, Diamond is now out of business, yet their product still lives on!

I remeber selling my Monster voodoo 1 card at agn3d so I could afford my 3dfx voodoo2 card planning to sli that badass mofo (geez I picked it up right when it came out $350!! for the 8mb version). Never got around to buying another card though🙁. With my celeron 300a at 450 and my kickass bh6 with 128 mb of pc100 ram I had the baddest computer on the block😛

I also remeber being pissed off at anand for not fixing the old UBB board for weeks at a time. And people complain so bad when the current board goes down for a few hours....well back in my day 😉

Oh yeah and I guess I could be a WMC....except I later got the hitachi 751 from value america for an insane price at the time (can't remeber off the top of my head). So instead I'm a HMC (happy montior child), plus I believe I received somthing like $30 from buy.com a year later for my troubles.
