Horse. why would anyone wanna ride an elephant?

because its bigger?
Bigger = Safer?
Bigger = Manly?

Same thing as why people choose to drive SUV's for transportation?

because they can STOMP ON THEM CARS!@

yeah, but do you know how slow elephants are? its like riding an suv 20 mph on a 75 mph speed limit highway. plus elephants stink way more than horses.

after riding on a horse for the first time this past summer, i didnt realize how uncomfortable it was.

but actually when the horse is in full stride it doesnt hurt. its when the horse is just trotting along on the pavement that really hurts your ass.

Have you ridden an elephant? It's not exactly like riding in a Cadillac...

I'd take a horse. Elephants are cool, but they seem more trouble than they would be worth.

I'd choose horse for getting around, but if I was going to be fighting in some war or maybe hauling merchant goods, I would choose an elephant. I assume we are talking about pre-medieval times, way back in the day, swords and spears and that sort of thing.

How is an elephant like a Jeep? It can't go anywhere a horse can't. It's just huge, slow, restricted to even terrain, and eats a lot. If anything, it's like an Excursion.

Horse obviously, there's a reason people didn't dump horses until cars were invented but only briefly used elephants. Elephants require massive amounts of food and are terribly unpredictable creatures. They're to intelligent and strong willed.

When the used them in war, the rider had a knife he would use to cut the elephants spinal cord when they turned and started running over their own troops. You basically pointed the elephants at your enemy and hope they killed them and not your guys.

And in the end, when you remove the fear inducing factor of elephants they aren't really that hard to dispatch.

MPF (miles per food) would be too low on the elephant...

It wasnt a pinpoint comparison, just a reference so to speak. Horse = fast, speedy, lightweight. Elephant = utilitarian, heavy, go through anything

I beg to differ, elephants can move things out of their way :)

I don't think anyone ever used an elephant for normal transportation. Elephants were used in battle rarely to send fear into the enemy, or their animals at least. I'm sure a horse that never saw an elephant before or a person that never saw one for that matter) would be scared.

As far as transportation it depends on where you are and what you have. Horse is great for normal ground and a good amount of weight at fast speeds. Certain other similar animals may hold more weight (luggage) but they are slower. Camels are good for the desert, etc. :p

I pick horse, it's the only animal I've actually ridden before. (No sex jokes please)
