For transferring data to a pda, would a usb SD card reader be faster than going through the cradle?

i have the toshiba e310 pocket pc. i listen to music on this thing, and ive noticed that transferring mp3s takes a LOOONG time. compared to my sandisk reader [compactflash], its horrible. unless cf is a lot faster than sd?

the cf reader takes 5 seconds to transfer a 3 meg file. the sd cradle takes about 45 seconds.

i dont believe their is a conversion process, is there? i think on the ppc, it remains as an mp3 file. someone correct me if im wrong... cause if it needs to be converted, this whole sd reader idea should be scrapped.

thanks for any help!

If's it like my E-125, it's the cradle USB interface that is slow. I get like a 10x increase when I transfer files directly to my CF card when it is plugged into my notebook then when I used MS ActiveSync.

ok, yes it will be MUCH faster.

ActiveSync is so slow because its limited to serial speeds still. It really barely takes advantage of USB, if not at all...

Many people have said its faster even over WiFi, and i myself am able to sync my iPaq 3970 over Bluetooth pretty rapidly (considering bluetooth is like a 1mbps cap or something)

There is no conversion process when going straight to the device. An mp3 file will still exist as the same exact thing when on the device. Its just that the transfer through serial speed is deathly slow..

So use a card reader and youll be a happier man (with lower blood pressure if youre a person who lacks patience...)
