Just curious. Networking? From ATOT? College degree help you any?

And for those who dont mind me asking, what's the payscale and region? Big city? Small city? Big money? Small money?

Just wondering. I may be headed towards a career change soon. TV isn't paying the bills.

I graduated two years ago and JUST got my first real "tech" job (the other jobs I had were tech jobs, but I was way overqualified for them).

It was pure dumb luck for me, I went to a job fair last year and they called me this year, went for the interview, got the job.

Even in this day and age, the most sure way of getting a job is knowing someone.

College degree plus experience, small city ~50k people, ~$35k a year. I'm 24, single and live in a 2 bedroom apartment. I hope that helps.

First software development job: BS CS and some grad school, faxed a resume.

Current software development job: boss from old job formed a startup company after company was sold, and actively recruited me.

Pay: quite decent (Seattle area).

Orion International.

Though an old standard still holds true.
80% of all jobs never get advertised. They are filled through social networking.

Thats where placement agencies have an edge.
Its more than just a database of jobs. They help you do a lot of the networking.
Wish I had found more contacts my last months in the Navy, but it all worked out.

my brother-in-law is a manager of a different department at this company... he got me an interview, and my education / previous work experience got me the job.

I do internet marketing for one of the big 4 dot com's. I'm a recent college grad, 22 years old, my degree got me in the door (international trade) but I got the job primarily because of my entrepreneurial experience outside of school.

And Yah for the record, non-technical/IT tech related jobs are sick.
