It would have been better if the mouse wasn't so fragile... I probably broke that on mine with maybe 2 or 3 months of buying it. :(

never heard of such a feature, but then again I own a Razer DeathAdder... best form, weight, and perfect gaming features, all of course "imho", but mho tends to be correct. :p

So, when you enable the mode, does the wheel physically just keep spinning with momentum? And this translates to a crazy fast/long scroll, since the wheel keeps moving?
Or is it a software thing, where a quick flick is translated in a particular way?
With my DeathAdder, I can flick it hard and fast, but it stops essentially the moment my finger is lifted.

I think I may have used one mouse before where it was a smooth, click free scroll... and I'm less confident on this part, but I think it continued moving if you flicked it hard enough.

its a very smooth spinning weighted wheel, i doubt you've experienced it because it free spins so readily that it would have been obvious. a flick and it goes for seconds, its not simply software. how its translated depends on software settings. but as said before the revolution has the ability to automatically shift between click and spin mode on the fly, so you can set it to free spin after you go past a certain spin speed for instance. most other logitech mice as far as i know only have manual switch mode. the rev also can switch based on application.

its not necessarily no click, its just that the rev uses the click as the manual switch mode. the g9 wheel click is simply the normal mouse button.

and yea i bind the left/right mouse wheel to copy/paste. horizontal scroll is pretty useless. but its nice to have extra buttons to bind to.

That's an awesome exploded view of the mechanism.

Hmmmmmm

I've never disassembled a Rev before since it's (somewhat) adjustable. The standard wheel detents always are too hard or too vague (more the former than the latter) and I've been modding them since 1999. Remember those retail boxes for the first Logitech optical mice with the flashing LED? Ok that's for another discussion! ;)

Anyway now this makes me want to take apart my MX Revolution. It's worth fine tuning. The only downside is when the mouse breaks (not considering the fact they stop making the damn things!) one has to mod the replacement as once you get used to how the modded one feels the replacement is just "not there".

There's a button on the bottom of the mouse. You push it to engage, and disengage the ratcheting action of the mousewheel. Freewheel is good for the web and documents, and ratcheting is good for games. The Revolution does it electronically, but the concept's the same. It can be adjusted via drivers.

Thank you thank you thank you! That freewheeeling "feature" has been driving me nuts and I was a typical user and didn't bother reading any of the documentation that came with the mouse so I didn't have a clue that is what that button did. :$

Speaking of mice, anyone use the MS comfort optical 3000 one and find the middle click is useless? I find you have to push ridiculously hard and in the right angle for it to work. I ended up assigning right click to the side button.

Firefox addon

Get it.

NAO

OOOOO

I have never heard of this.

THANK YOU

Though I can just feel my CPU angrily plotting Firefox's demise with this addon now. It doesn't slow my PC or Firefox down, but I imagine it definitely has an impact on CPU load.

yea it looks interesting, but theres no way it can replicate a spin wheel, the effort to spin down many pages is a flick that would probably roll a regular wheel one click:p

Is that cordless? Damn that looks cool, but I can't stand corded mice. Currently using the MX Revolution - best mouse I've ever owned.

who knows, might be both. i see a cord in one shot none in the other. i know it has a hot swappable battery so it has to be cordless part of the time. i'd prefer if it were corded though, i do feel the lag which is why i have a g9 as well for games.

I love my '518, the only thing I wish it has was a side-tilting wheel.

That Cyborg RAT looks like it might try to kill you! I want one.

Does anyone have any problems with the Vertical scroll on the middle wheel? No matter what speed setting I set it won't register when I use firefox, it stays at the default 5 lines no matter what.

Other then that, absolutely love my MX Rev. The thumb arrow buttons to go back or forward on a page and the thumb scroll to switch through tabs and thumb scroll click to refresh.

I've had an MX Rev for...sheesh, 3 years? I absolutely love the thing, but it's definitely quirky. Charging can be a chore...there are so many different versions of the mouse and the base station...and i've been through them all and none seem to work flawlessly. Otherwise, even after 3 years, my battery still holds a solid 5 day charge, probably 10 hours of use per day. i had to remove the rubber from the main scroll wheel, as after a while it starts to fray and drag on the lower scroll mechanism. This thing has been to hell and back. my ex-girlfriend dumped an entire glass of milk on the thing and it worked fine after drying out and a good cleaning. It's definitely been a staple of my daily computing...i'd be rather lost without it ;)

The next thing they need to have is an induction charging pad so the mouse never needs to be charged. Heck why even have a battery? Just use a capacitor so the mouse can go "off road" for a bit so you're not restricted to the pad!

It's a PIA when you forget to cradle the mouse or it falls over and never gets charged. At least with the new one you can use it as a corded mouse as it charges and the mouse is loaded with a pair of AA Enloops so you can just swap these out too.
