For those with a Logitech Revolution mouse..

Do you find yourself absentmindedly trying to flick the wheel on other mice to get to the bottom of the page? I'm so used to the flywheel now that whenever I want to get to the bottom of any page I just unconsciously flick the scroll wheel, even if I'm using someone else's computer.

Why? I love it.

it stutters. the wireless engine is flawed. it got on my nerves so much that I went back to a wired MX510. if you search the web it is a very common problem.

I hate my VX Nano's scrollwheel, I could never get the hang of middle-clicking without scrolling at the same time (regardless of whether I have it in free-spinning of "clicky" mode). I had to re-map the search button to middle-click.

I have no idea how to get this feature to work.

There's a button on the bottom of the mouse. You push it to engage, and disengage the ratcheting action of the mousewheel. Freewheel is good for the web and documents, and ratcheting is good for games. The Revolution does it electronically, but the concept's the same. It can be adjusted via drivers.

The MX Revolution was the best to implement this feature as the wheel would disengage the detent mechanism based on acceleration. (meaning a fast flick would take out the click and let the wheel FLY - great for LOOOOONG pages!) Internet Explorer for whatever reason would break this feature and the detent would always drop out. Never worried about it since we don't use IE.

The supposed replacement darkfield anywhere version uses a button to engage/disengage the detent mechanism. BOOO! It also is not as comfortable IMO.

Well here anyway you hit the End button if the page has focus and you go to the bottom.

yea the g9 was a bit of fail that way, the freaking switch was on the bottom.
course you really only have to switch it between games so its not that big a deal but still.. ack. on the wrong freakin side of the mouse. the rev as far as i know is the only one to have auto shift wheel. its just neat knowing it can switch based on profiles and such. which woulda been great for the g9 because gaming is all about profile switching,esp when u got so few buttons.

well its not just to the bottom, its a fast way to traverse a page, and you can stop the spin dead in an instant once u get where you want. regular wheels are just laborious.

I found the auto-switching to be ungodly annoying. Switched all the time when I didn't want it to. Now I just use push to switch, and the button right in front/behind :/ is my middle click. Has worked out well.

The only stuttering I've ever noticed is when windows locks up

you have to adjust the switch point. plus its not just auto shift, theres also profile shifting which is good. and woulda been excellent for the g9 for auto switching to click for games.

never heard of such a feature, but then again I own a Razer DeathAdder... best form, weight, and perfect gaming features, all of course "imho", but mho tends to be correct.

So, when you enable the mode, does the wheel physically just keep spinning with momentum? And this translates to a crazy fast/long scroll, since the wheel keeps moving?
Or is it a software thing, where a quick flick is translated in a particular way?
With my DeathAdder, I can flick it hard and fast, but it stops essentially the moment my finger is lifted.

I think I may have used one mouse before where it was a smooth, click free scroll... and I'm less confident on this part, but I think it continued moving if you flicked it hard enough.

It's mechanical, and it spins with momentum.

It's a little of both. The revolution has a free spin mode that lets the wheel spin a few seconds before coming to rest. This is combined with some software that accelerates the on-page scrolling and keeps moving until the wheel comes to a stop.

The revolution also has a second wheel on the thumb that has a forward/back and "click" motion. I have that set up to be volume up/down and mute.

It's a really cool mouse for casual computer use.
