Hi I have been to message boards and reading faqs the last 2 days and believe I have done all I can do solve my problem to get this board and a retail 1ghz thunderbird to even post video. Nothing works so Im assuming atleast my motherboard is dead.

But I have some specific questions that may make it clear that I can find the answer to.

1. should this board beep? Like a single beep on boot, different codes depending hault/errors? I never have had any beeps period so if its supposed to maybe thats a sign of a dead board?

2. I turned on the machine twice bare with just cpu, motherboard and ram stick and the video bios showed for 2 seconds then it shut off by itself, third time and since no video to screen. Isn't that a wierd symptom that could probably be the board?(cpu and ram wouldn't cause the power to just die would it?)

3. Im about to rma the board cause I can get nowhere. I have tried clearing the cmos reseating the agp, ram, and cpu, trying different sticks and vga cards but I can't get that video back plus the power thing was really wierd which I have never experienced before.

I guess I just need to know what exactly happens when certain parts are dead ya know? like even if my cpu and ram was dead upon bootup would it still send video to the screen then just halt when it deteced them, then beep?

I didn't see your previous post so some of the info I am providing you may be stuff you have already tried.

Do you know for a fact that all of the other parts work?
Parts meaning the power supply, CPU, RAM and video card

Is this a new case and powersupply? If so, try another power supply.

Have you attempted to OverClock the processor at ANYTIME?

Are you sure you are using the correct core voltages and have the jumper properly setup (I think STICKHEAD has this board so ask him about this).

I would NOT be surprised that the board is bad, I think that the QA in this stuff (graphic cards, memory, and motherboards) has really been bad in the past month I have noticed.

thanks for the replies. I did what I could and swapped the ram, power supply and agp video cards even though I know all my parts work fine(I have the initial setup in my rig right now since I couldn't get going yet)

So my variables are the motherboard and cpu right now and I haven't a clue if they are good since I don't have spare parts to test. And I have never run this processor let alone overclock it.

I have read one big faq that says no beeps on this motherboard means its dead and its been like that for me each time. I would assume its dead also cause of the shutdown problems that happened twice then never again with exact same untouched setup.

specifically the NO beeping made me wonder if the board isn't a loss already. from that same faq I read the video posts first so if thats the case I should atleast get video again and then have it halt on the cpu or memory, etc. I would assume?

I have emailed abit and the reseller I got the stuff from. Im basically just trying to find out exactly how the board would act if the video or cpu or ram was bad. Oh well this is really my first time getting bad computer hardware so it will probably now be a couple weeks before I can get a new board and even attempt to check the processor.

If you don't even get a beep try this...

Unscrew the motherboard from the case but leave your ram and cpu and the wires to the switches etc connected. Lift the motherboard so it doesn't come in contact with the case at all. Try and boot. If it does then there is something underneath the motherboard shorting it out. Look at the screw risers from the case do they perfectly match the motherboard? If you have one that touches the motherboard but doesn't have a hole in the motherboard for the screw it will short it out.

I had this problem with mine and simply put a piece of cardboard between the two and all is well.

i agree with what Fumiup says. i had the same problem. my kt7 would not shows anything either, when i turned it on. so i took it back to the computer show, thinking it was defective, they tested it with no computer case just a power supply, ram, cpu and a video card and it worked fine. so i took it home put it back in the case and still nothing, so i tried it myself out of the case and it worked fine. the thing i did to get it to work, was i used the washers that came with the new case i got, and put them on the bottom of the gold posts that screw into the case where the motherboard goes, now everything runs perfectly. good luck
