Get them while they stay in stock at Overstock.com. These sold out pretty fast last time, as I missed the initial buyout. This deal is aimed towards those who got a new K6-3+ processor (pc liquidator) lately for a good deal and need a nice motherboard that has been documented compatible.

You will be hard pressed to find a better deal on a Super7 motherboard like this one.:)

CPU support: Pentium processor with MMX technology; AMD K6-2/K6-III; Cyrix(R)6x86/6x86L/6x86MX/MII; jumper settings for 100MHz bus to 5.5X
Clock: support up to 95MHz/100MHz
Memory support: two DIMM banks; 256MB support each bank; 512MB SDRAM Max; supports ECC, EDO, and SDRAM DIMMs
Video: ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP; 8MB of 100 MHz SGRAM on motherboard
Audio: Creative ES 1373 chipset (PCI)
I/O ports: one VGA, one serial, one parallel, two USB ports, floppy
Vcore Voltage: from 2.0V to 3.52V (2.0 voltage needed for the K6-3+ processors from pcliquidator.com)
Expansion slots: three PCI expansion slots
Form factor: Micro ATX
Standard IDE and floppy cable included

Too good of a Nice price to pass, I just ordered mine.
I just wish it didn't have imbeded sound and video. It would have been nicer if the imbeded crap wasn't included. Hope I can turn that crap off...

Sounds like a deal, but I went to the MSI site and couldn't find
bios downloads for the PMS5185 and can't tell if it's a via, and how much onboard cache it has. Can yOu tell me where to find this info?
Thanks a lot

If you own a k6-3+ do not buy that motherboard it is incompatible. If you put the processor in it, it will run slower then a 486. SimMike2 had the same experience.

This motherboard is a OEM that was made for Gateway. To get updates you will have to go to gateway and look up in the updates section under K6-2. They say it will only go up to 450mhz but I have heard it might go up to 500mhz if you get the BIOs updates.
Hope this helps. :)

samiam: Uses ALI V chipset, 512k cache. At first, I was skeptical of the ALI chipset, but found it much easier to work with than the VIA chipsets. At least WinSE installed much easier than on VIA. Nice board for my daughter's computer.

Be carefull about this board, I bought one the first go around from overstock. It is "refurbished" mine had a broken socket fan clip. Sent it back for a refund rather than a replacement because I also found the board not compatible with the K63+.

Thanks Anandfan and all - does this motherboard come with anything?
or is there a gateway part number on it? I looked around on the gw2k site and they bury everything in their own numbers - wonder what the chance is that the bios for the 5184 might work - don't know if I have the guts to try it - probably not. Strange that the 5185 manual is available on the MSI site. Anybody think maybe the bios and drivers available on the MSI site for the 5184 might work?

Hey, check out the board at gateway's site http://gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/0aaqm/0aaqm.shtml. Nothing to download at this page (maybe elsewhere on site??), just a ton of random info, doesn't say if the onboard video can be turned off tho.

edit//wtf?? I did a search on msi's site for 5185 and...

......................................................................................
Search Results

PID# 1418
Problem: Can the MS-5185 support AMD k6-3/500?. If so, please send me a manual.
Solution: Yes, the MS-5185 supports k6-3/500. The manual can be found from our website in a pdf format. You will need acrobat reader to view this.
......................................................................................

Any thoughts?

good find Stonerdave- sure looks like the same board - when I search on the MSI site for 5185, it comes up with nothin - couldn't find the PID anywhere either. On the good link you found, it does say it supports the K6-3, but their latest bios only mentions the K6-2.
If it will support the K6-3, then I think it would support the K6-3+, IF you could set the right voltage and that may be the problem.

In any case, it still looks like a pretty nice deal to me.

I purchased on last night too. Go to the "Coupon Place", they have $10 off $30 for MC users, but it might work with any...also they have a coupon for free Magazine. SO I got the MB for $29.99/free shipping and a free subscription to Cycle World.

Mamisano,
pardon my ignorance, but does the coupon place rhyme with rye poupons?

Does MC stand for master card? I can't find the coupon.

thanks,
pigseye
