Aside from the circa 94 graphics, the game is awesome fun for the shear number of ways to arm your guys, build your bases, and investigate the enemy.
I remember one game where I was taking on a Snakemen terror site and most of the town was converted to Chyrsallids (sp?)
It ended with my last guy on the ramp of the skyranger tossing grenades and proximity mines to keep them at bay. He was critically wounded when one of the Chyrsallids formed from one of my former soldiers SHOT my last guy with a laser rifle.
(For devotes of the game you should shudder at the thought of an armed Chyrsallid.)
I'm not sure if I ever played the original. I know I played XCOM 2: Terror From the Deep, though. Ah the memories of playing on a direct modem to modem connection.
