For those who have gone from 22" to 24" LCD

Did you notice a big enough difference to justify the expense? Did it enhance your gaming/movie experience enough?

Assume one could get about $100 for thier current 22"

I went from 20 to 24 and it was night and day.

With your SLI setup, I wouldn't run anything less than a 24inch display unless all you ever play is Crysis. 🙂

I know, I kind of over-bought on the GPUs in anticipation for a LCD upgrade. I guess it is that time...
 
I went from 20 -> 24 and was pretty underwhelmed.
The added niceness came from
1. Better image quality (my 20" was a pile of crap in terms of colour/viewing angles)
2. Rotation to landscape/portrait mode (not specific to changing size)
3. Easy to rotate base (again, not specific to changing size).

My 24" is much much nicer than my 20" was, but not because it's 24" rather than 20". IMO if you are going from 22 to 24 you'd better be getting something else out of it too, like additional features.
 
I went from a 22" TN Acer to my 24" Soyo PVA LCD, and it was a very nice upgrade. I wouldn't say a "huge" upgrade, but games do look a lot nicer on my 24" screen, partly due to the bigger screen height ( alittle more immersive) and partly due to the PVA panel. I can say that once you use 1920 x 1200 on your desktop, yoiu may find it difficult to go back to 1680 X 1050. I'm not saying that 1680 x 1050 is not usable, it fine, but 1920 X 1200 is better.

The pixels are also a little smaller on a 24" LCD, and IMO they are the "ideal" size. If you go any smaller in the pixel size, you need very good eyes, while if you go any larger, you start to see the individual pixels, and things may look grainy at times. The 24" LCD isa good compromise in pixel size.
 
I caved in and bought the Dell S2409W 24" LCD for $233.10 before tax+ free shipping. Ive always used TN, so I dont mind.

I know its only 1080p, but I owe the IRS some $$$, so I have to be frugal for a while. It comes with a 3 year zero dead pixel warranty also, which is nice. If it sucks, ill send it back 😛
 
I went from a 22" 1680x1050 to 25.5" 1980x1200 and I feel it was worth every penny. It's more engaging in game, and the extra desktop real estate for everyday computing really grew on me.
 
I've been mulling over the 22" -> 24" switch for a long time - just waiting for a hot price on the 24". It seems like MANY more hot deals come along for 22" than for 24"
 
Curious about this as well. I 'settled' on the Dell 2209WA because I didn't feel I could justify spending $650 to $1100 on a 24-inch IPS display, though now that I've found the HP LP2475w for $568, I wonder if I've still time to return the Dell. It's not so much the extra two inches that concerns me, though, than the resolution (1680x1050 v 1920x1200) and dot pitch.

i guess it depends on how much more it costs. i mean a TN 22" vs a TN 24" its probably only a $50-80 difference. I'd probably do it. for IPS its quite a bit of difference.

My last monitor was an S-IPS nec 20wmgx2 1680x1050 and i sold it for basically what I paid for a LG 24" pMVA with 1920x1200. I'd say it was a great move.

But with the new 2209WA vs... even an pmva 24" its going to be like $150-200 probably if you can even find a non TN 24"
 
If only HP would offer the sort of price ($450ish) for the LP2475w that we've seen Dell drop the 2408WFP to. Granted one is IPS whilst the other PVA, but they both started out at comparable retail prices.

I suppose I can still hope for affordable 'e-IPS' displays to start showing up in the 23 to 24-inch range.
 
Going from 22" to 24" makes a big difference in many ways. You get more pixels: 1680 x 1050 --> 1920 x 1200. Although there are some 22" that are coming out that have 1920 x 1080. So you can stick to 22" and get extra pixels that way. In terms of gaming, as long as you have enough GPU power, playing at 1920 x 1200 is better than 1680 x 1050. My dream would be to have a 30" that supports 2560 x 1600. Can you imagine how cool it would be to play games at that resolution? If you could, I'd recommend a 30". 🙂
 
I had a 30" dell on gamer before. But I went to nice 26" for my gamer. I just bought a 26' westinghouse. . For browsing its perfect for me. Sure its not as nice as the other but way cheaper also. But It really helps these old eyes. I really like the 26" formate.
 
I've been thinking about a 24" monitor too, there are so many 1920x1080 monitors now... but I think I'd want the extra pixels by going 1920x1200 over my 22" as all I'd gain is 30 lines of resolution in that regard. Obviously the bigger physical size would be nice, as well the extra width... just got to convince the wife...

I still have a 20" and 22", both 1620x1050. I mostly use my 24" 1920x1200. For pure gaming, actually doesn't matter too much. However, for non-gaming desktop use, I wouldn't give up my 24".
 
Well, I started on a 19" CRT then went to a 22" LCD. It was a HUUGE difference. Then from there I actually went on to two 22" monitors rather than one 24". I would definitely take that over a 24" but, if I were just comparing one. I would say a 24" is better but not by much. My friend has a 24" and it's just not that amazing when you already have a 22" monitor let alone 2.
