I make backup cds, backups of data off hard drive, and to make audio cds out of mp3s.

Primarily to convert 20 yrears of reel-to-reel tapes and cassettes to CDs.

Secondarily for downloaded patches, updates, and freeware.

Tertiarily for archiving finished files in PDF format.

Have two burners on three systems, and they get used about 4-5 times a week.

Damn...just anything. One time I burned a 150k file to a CD and that's all that was on the CD.....hey, i needed that file quick. CD's are cheap.

I've had my burner for about 2.5 years and probably burned ~400 discs. Good old Ricoh 6x4x24.

If you are contemplating buying a burner and you have the cash there are thousands of reasons to get them. Games, Mp3s, Cd-mixes, movies, important file backup....just to name a few.

i seem to be using my burner for friends and family who dont have a burner. almost weekly, someone is giving me there hard drive or zip disk and saying "can you back this up".

oh, I laid my eyes on the Teac 12X deal. its 150 buck shipped, and 165 with Cali Tax.

I held off on getting a burner for a while, simply because I couldn't think of enough reasons to justify the extra cost.

Now I don't see how I ever lived without one. 😉
