Anybody have their Wiis modded? If so, worth it? And what chip did u use?

Will the Wii still go online?

Thanks!

Not since Nintendo just changed their Mobo so it won't work on the new ones. I expect Nintendo to try to keep battling this one for a while.

Is this the first time they've been modded like this?

I've installed a couple Wiikey's. Takes longer to open the case than it does to install the chip. So far everything works just as it's supposed to. Only GC homebrew currently runs. I imagine Wii homebrew to be quite a ways down the road.

The new Wii motherboard doesn't affect anything. You'll just have to run some wires - which is stupidly simple if you've ever used a soldering iron before. I've installed the current Wiikey chip with wires.

Using the open source ModCheap on my Wii. I now have all the parts to make the Chiip. Why pay 4x more for a premade one when you can do it for less than $10 :)

As for the new board, as noted, all it does prevents the quick solder options.

Yeah, modded Wii currently works fine with the various online channels. But we still have to wait to see if there is a firmware update to break it.
