CDW informed me that ATi has not given them another date, so who knows.

The 6800 GT is looking tastier and tastier, hopefully benchmarks will be released soon.

Gateway will get the cards later than most other places. You have a better chance getting the card at Best Buy and CompUSA. I preordered from bestbuy.com and got the x800 XT PE on July 7. I would give up on gateway. They don't know anything.

Yep, I hopped on the cdw deal for an X800 XT (cancelled after 3 weeks), a pre-order elsewhere for a 6800 Ultra (cancelled after a month), and what I ended up doing was ordering an eVGA 6800 GT from Newegg. It arrived in 2 days.

My order status on Gatway as of today...

"Your Gateway order will arrive on 7/16/04."

That's been my status for about the past 3-4 weeks. I ordered on 6/3 and if it doesn't arrive tomorrow I'm cancelling my order. I've already waited six weeks - I'm not going to wait another day. Will update tomorrow...

This guy at Rage3d says he talked to ATI, they promised him they'd be shipping by mid August.

When I think back to all the insults flung from ATI camp about nVidia's "paper launches"....

It seems to be harder to bring a video card to market these days, when you consider the RAM shortages, the wait on fabs to perfect thinner silicon.

Future Headlines:
"Exclusive reviews of the nVidia 7850 Ultra and ATI X950XT Video Cards"

Meanwhile, Newegg still doesnt have any 6800 or X800 series cards in stock.

So I'm working at a site today and my cell phone rings. Hmmm... I don't recognize the number but I answer anyway. It's so-and-so from Gateway saying something about my credit card authorization running out and now being declined. I'm like, hold on... I ordered my card on June 3rd and my online order status has been "Your Gateway order will arrive on 7/16/04" for weeks now. Are you telling me my card isn't even shipped yet? She said yes. I said, I'll save you and me any further trouble - just cancel my order.

In short, Gateway sucks. It's pretty freaking sad when you can't get a simple straight answer on a product being in stock or not. I gave them a chance to deliever and I was even patient about it but 6 weeks is too long. Never again Gateway, never again...

Now I can go join the many who already trashed them on Reseller Ratings. Enjoy the  Gateway... :disgust:

My review of them below:

I'm one of many who ordered the ATI Radeon X800XT-PE from Gateway and like everyone else I got the same runaround. After several conversations with sales, CSR's, and CSR supervisors I came to this conclusion...

All the sales people care about is selling you things and all the CSR's care about is getting you off the phone and both will tell you whatever it takes to make it happen.

Customer: Is the X800XT in stock selling for $XXX?
Sales: Yep, sure is. Great deal, eh? Tell your friends!

Customer orders on 6/3 and gets an Email from Gateway stating his order had shipped on 6/10. No, that's not a typo. Their order status actually said it shipped 7 days in the future.

Customer: Hello, can I get a status of order XXXX?
CSR: Um, we don't carry that anymore. Your order will be cancelled.

Customer: CSR said my order would be cancelled.
Sales: No, they don't have all the details. They are on backorder. They will arrive 6/16.
Customer: Okay. I'll wait

Online order status changes from ship date of 6/10 to 6/16 a few days later. A few days after that a Gateway CSR calls and says the orders will not arrive until 7/16 and asks if I want to wait. I give her the okay. Today I get a call saying my credit card authorization had expired and got denied when they retried. I cancelled my order - not out of spite but because Gateway doesn't deserve my business. I'd rather pay more elsewhere than contribute any $$$ to Gateway.

In short, stay clear of Gateway in all forms. They truly don't know what they are doing and how they survived this long is beyond me.

in all fairness, it's not gateway. cdw hasn't shipped diddly either. other than the small amount which has tricked to a few major retailers (cusa, bb, and so on), it's ati that have left the retailers with no place to go... gateway and others are just guessing because ati is forcing them to...

I've got to disagree with you there. They never had them in stock and advertised them like they did. And to magnify that mistake they couldn't provide a clear answer on what the status really was. I called their Sales and CSR's and got different reponses that ranged from "they're in stock and shipping" to "all orders are being cancelled". That's a pretty drastic difference. Gateway is a joke. The sooner Dell puts them out of business the better.

so did cdw and many other retailers... they all expected them, but very few received em... and ati hasn't said anything.

cdw reps also gave many different answers, and have missed several promised dates.. if it was only gateway, i could see your point, but it's not... which leaves ati as the common element (who hasn't publically stated the reasons for the 2 month delay either).

on another note, outpost had bfg 6800 gt's "in stock". i ordered one w/ overnight early this morning, and just now received these messages:

I didn't know other vendors were advertising the X800's in stock as well. Sorry to hear you got the same kind of treatment from CDW for a 6800 as well, CaiNaM. Now that I cancelled my X800XT from Gateway I'm not going to bother upgrading until I get a real deal and I'm certain the cards are really in stock. Still, no matter what the situation I'll never order anything from Gateway again. It would've been simple had they been honest from the start but they either lied about it or were totally clueless about what was going on. Either way they'll never get my $$$.

well, it was actually outpost (fry's) on the 6800; CDW is having the exact same situation as GW regarding the XTs.

i ended up doing a preorder on a pny GT for $330; will be off to atlanta for 2 weeks anyway, so i might as well wait - they claim they'll ship in 10 days, so we'll see.

i ended up selling one of my x800 pros for $400 instead of trading, and ordered the pny this morning. in the meantime, i'm not disappointed at all with the x800 in my rig; it's more i'm curious to compare with a gt first-hand ;)

Same boat as Robor. Ordered 6/3. They have changed the ship date about 5 times now. I was listed as 7/16. Now booted to 8/9. Have a note into the sales rep. Waiting for his answer before I decide to cancel.

I hate to whip this nearly dead horse...

But gateway just told me "good news, those finally came in"

and they told a friend of mine the same thing.

But then again they told me the same thing on 6/3

Has anyone else spoken to them today?

cause it's $70 less.. and "LIFETIME" warrantly reassures buyers when you're sellin em on ebay - there's a lot more ppl who buy budget or older cards than those who stay on bleeding edge and buy hi-end cards every 6-12 mo.

I cancelled my Gateway order last week. After 6 weeks of waiting it was time. I know it's not Gateway's fault that ATI has delayed the cards but it is Gateway's fault for their inept handling of the situation.

I still remember back when I ordered and we all thought our orders were going to be cancelled. I called and spoke with a CSR supervisor about the situation. She said my order would be cancelled because they had run out of the stock they had and wouldn't be getting anymore in. I said, that's not possible because they were never in stock in the first place. She said I was wrong because it's impossible for them to list the item if they don't physically have them. Their Sales dept was equally clueless. They'll tell you anything to keep you from cancelling.

I read somewhere that Gateway was getting out of the accessory business and going back to only selling (crappy) computers. The sooner Dell puts them out of business the better (yes, I'm still bitter). :p
