I think there's a deeply seated human need to believe in something supernatural / paranormal, felt by perhaps 95% of people. It could be the so-called "god gene" and perhaps it manifests itself in other bizarre beliefs in place of religion, if popular culture dictates this. It's just biology we're talking about, any belief of this nature should satisfy the need to believe in something out of the ordinary and exciting.

And another thing - not everything we can't explain is aliens. That leap of logic is no different from explaining away natural phenomena with the idea of a god or gods, as has been done in the past with everything from thunderstorms to earthquakes. This just supports what I said above.

Edit - I do think there's a good chance there's extraterrestrial life out there, but we can't know for sure yet. There certainly is no compelling evidence it has visited us.

its mostly based on things like the pyramids and coral castle that no one can explain how built.

There are several theories on how the pyramids were built---all of when were well within the grasp of ancient peoples. As for Coral Castle...look around the Internet for pictures of the guy using pullies and block/tackle to move stones.

It is possible according to the laws of physics, and our best hope of traveling the galaxy.

Hundreds of 'Missing' Black Holes Found

I heard they were secretly building a warp drive craft inside the space station.

Astronauts begin space construction job

That was just the cover story, they installed the flux capacitor and took it out for a test drive.

I hope you realize that your first link is, as they say in France "a crock"

...and it ends with:

"While Krauss says this kind of travel is possible as far as relativity is concerned, he doesn't think it will ever actually happen.

I believe in UFOS. Unidentified Flying Objects. Emphasis on the unidentified part of that word. Unidentified does not mean alien spacecraft. Even though I think alien life is certainly a possibility, nothing I have seen or heard leads me to believe that any of these are alien in nature.......

It's amazing to me how close minded some people can be. The universe is extremely large (understatement), and to believe that earth is the only planet in the entire universe that houses intelligent life, is silly.

and you are an example of not being open minded enough to realize that there is no physical proof and the reality of it is that we may very well be it.

Do not be like the religious extremists that confuses faith with science....there is no scientific proof of the existence of any divine being....just peoples faith that there is something greater.

The fact that the observer was a highly trained one (pilot) AND it was tracked
on radar as well lends some creditability. What was it??, who knows but this incident
does not look like some sort of hoax at all.

Heck, I'm a christian and even I agree with you (wheezer). If you (m4h47g)would take the time to read the thread instead of seeing the title and popping in long enough to make an emotive and unfounded response, you would see there are many people here that won't deny intelligent alien life for exactly that reason. The real issue is whether or not they can manage to get from point A to B, not to mention why they would even want to spend hundreds of years on a ship just to get there since (so far) faster than light travel is theoretical, but extremely far from practical. You think a space elevator sounds crazy? A space elevator is nothing compared to FTL travel. Not to mention the size of the universe works against you here, there are an awful lot of stars out there, and visiting each one personally just ain't gonna happen. It's possible that a really advanced race could spam the sky with Von Neumann probes, but then it would still take hundreds of years for the information to get back to them and for them to fly over here themselves unless they're lucky enough to practically be on our doorstep, then it could only take several decades depending on how close they can get to lightspeed.

You are assuming that they (if they exist) are bound to the "laws of physics"...

UFO's exists and so do beings from other planets. You would have to be totally ignorant to not believe it. There's no way in hell the life forms on Earth can be the only ones existing.

So what about the possibility of alien life forms that live for the equivalent of 1,000 Earth years. Traveling at high rates of speed effectively slows time right? So maybe a life form that lives for 1,000 years and is traveling at the speed of light wouldnt consider a trip to a neighboring solar system or galaxy to be such an impossible task.

Oh you mean unlike everything else in the universe 😕 As we've noted before, warp travel, etc, that bends the laws of the universe is theoretically possible, but ridiculously complicated and difficult in practice for several reasons, the least of which isn't power draw. There's a reason Roddenberry put an antimatter engine on the Enterprise, you know. We have yet to develop a fusion reactor that makes more energy than it pulls, an antimatter is a whole 'nother ball game.

From the Wiki
The biggest limiting factor in the production of antimatter is the availability of antiprotons. Recent data released by CERN states that when fully operational their facilities are capable of producing 107 antiprotons per second. Assuming an optimal conversion of antiprotons to antihydrogen, it would take two billion years to produce 1 gram of antihydrogen. Another limiting factor to antimatter production is storage. As stated above there is no known way to effectively store antihydrogen. The ATHENA project has managed to keep antihydrogen atoms from annihilation for tens of seconds ? just enough time to briefly study their behaviour.
CERN laboratories, which produces antimatter on a regular basis, said: "If we could assemble all of the antimatter we've ever made at CERN and annihilate it with matter, we would have enough energy to light a single electric light bulb for a few minutes."

Even if you ignore the extreme engineering problems we're left with the question of why in heck would they care about us, you can't throw out all of the objections with nice little statements.

Uhh...the fact that it used Warp drive, which was something totally made up?

I know I know, people have made theories about how a warp drive could work, but we can't even begin to imagine the technology needed to bend space in such a way.
it is amazing though how much current technology was first dreamed up by science fiction writers before becoming reality. it could be argued that arthur c clarke help to create the future (now present and future).

That's one interpretation although hardly an accurate one. Guys like Arthur C Clarke didn't create anything. The best science fiction writers are science geeks at heart. There's very little they invented out of thin air. There merely understood the progression of science and knew what would be possible if you extrapolated existing technology into what was just over the horizon and took that one or two logical steps forward.

It's not Nostradamus-like to see flight leading to jets, jets leading to rockets and rockets leading to space. The scientific principles involved were known and understood, the practical applications simply had not caught up to the theory. There are millions of projected roadmaps of where computer technology is heading. A person that understand the industry has a fairly good idea of how things will stand in 5 years and 10 years and even further. Those guys are not writing computer fiction and they're not creating anything. They're merely projecting not only what is possible, but what is inevitable.

wow, I used to hope UFO's could be possible... but after watching part 5, if that's the best evidence you have, you've really got to be dreaming to think they're some alien vessels

I know about all the theories and speculation. Still modern man can't duplicate the actual procedures nor make them feasible even when not caring about deaths on the job or fatique is figured in.

I also believe there is live elsewhere in the universe. I just don't think it's ever visited our planet.

According to this the aliens might have visited Italy already!:-

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new...7/10/26/waliens126.xml

"Aliens were responsible for a series of unexplained fires in fridges, TV?s and mobile phones in an Italian village, according to an Italian government report."

"Now in an interim leaked report published by several Italian newspapers it has emerged that the Civil Protection Department has concluded the most likely cause was "aliens"."
..
..
Now where's Will Smith when you need him?

Kodos: Hey Kang, we have intelligent life on this planet!
Kang: Wow Kodos, that's the most significant discovery in the history of Rigellian civilization!
Kodos:Hey, I have an idea, let's play some jokes on them by stalking their flying machines and making circles in their crop fields!
Kang: Awesome, that'll totally freak them out!

How do you explain the way these things fly?

Until you've seen one you will be skeptical.

Why would you interact with such a primitive species?

They are a smart enough to not interact publicly because we are so barbaric.

Would you openly interact with us?
