For those that do not live in SoCal: Why do you visit Disneyland? What compels you?

srsly, it's like a $2-300 detour to go to Disneyland for 2 people if you're already in SoCal for a vacation, and a small fortune for a 4 person family to travel to Disneyland.

And when you get there, you encounter giant lines overpriced everything kids everywhere etc etc etc. Basically 9th level of hell. And you just paid an arm and a leg for the privilege.

So, why the fuck do you go there? Just to say you did it? Because you were brainwashed as a child? Disneyland has great marketing?

Please, inquiring minds want to know.

Why do you go to concerts? You have to pay parking fees, the cost of admission, you have to stand in huge lines to get inside. Once you are inside drinks and everything else is WAY overpriced. You sit there with hundreds, even thousands of sweaty people in an overheated space, packed body to body for hours on end.

So really, what is the point?

Never been there, but Disney World in FL is full of awesome. If you go in the winter the crowds are bit smaller, and the temperature is more reasonable. It's expensive as shit, but worth it imo.

My sister just went to the one in SoCal. I think of Disney world as a money pit! She told me some of the prices for fun inside the park. Maybe I am just cheap but hell no!

exactly, I don't get why anyone goes to either.

1st rule of disneyland: don't go on a weekend

if you follow rule #1, I would say the aggravation factor is nil. The attractions aren't exactly my cup of tea, but just the overall quality is a notch above other parks. However speaking to one of my friends who has an annual pass, she says she goes there because it brings back memories from her childhood and that it feels like another world.

Spending money on overpriced anything is a given for me when I go on vacation.

I lived in Cali all my life, lived in LA for 3 years. I went to Disneyland 1 time, and this is before I moved to LA. Don't like really crowded places.

I ask the same questions of those that travel down to MickeyWorld. I sit next to them on planes flying into OIA and want to ask them WTF are they thinking.

Please keep pumping dollars into the local economy. Without (fill in the blank) like you ... the local tourism-based economy would implode.

money to see a band that I enjoy. Let's say 80 dollar ticket + 2 hour drive.

What compels someone to travel across state lines to go to disneyland? Do you LOVE disney shit or what?

I've never been to Disneyland but enjoy Disney World in Orlando. The lines aren't bad at all if you know what you're doing and go at the right time of year. Fast Pass is the way to go.

And why do we like to go? Because it's fun.

I've lived in SoCal for 22 years and I think I've been there 3 times... and I have a kid.

I work with a woman who loves that place and she has no kids. I think she's nuts.

I drive by it regularly. I've been there twice (once to take my out of country relatives, the other time when it was closed off to the public and free for me)...that place sucks.

Hmm, I would have thought it would be quieter in the summer because all the northerners and Canadians stay local. Disney was bomb when I went, 20 years ago. Ah to be six again. Should really go back one day. 🙂

Well, I suppose I was making an assumption. I've been twice in my life. Once when I was 6, and when I was 30 something. Both times were in the winter, and neither time I thought was especially crowded, though I don't remember when I was 6 so great. I've heard about terrible lines, but I saw nothing of the sort in early March. I'd actually prefer early February I think. The last day there was hot as hell, and humid, but we were getting packed up to get back on the plane, so it wasn't so bad.

It seems like all the fun stuff around here(MD) happens in the summer, and that's when I least like to be outside. I wish more festivals and stuff happened in late fall. The temperature is much more agreeable then.

A small fortune? You'll spend more to take your family to any professional sporting event.

If you do the math it's a heckuva deal. $50 for 16 hours of rides, shows, people watching, memories, etc... You just need to learn how to deal with the crowds and work the fast passes, etc...

To each their own.

I went as a kid and loved it.

When i lived in socal in the early nineties I went With a girl who ate bunch if shrooms and annoyed the crap out of me. It's no nots berry farm..

I haven't gone since I was about 14. Going next week even though it'll cost an ass load because I got an invite to club 33. That said you go out to concerts shows or whatever you are going to because its something you want to do. Not everyone can be a shut in and play diablo/ wow in their moms basement all year.

I went to a concert Friday night in a crowded shrine auditorium. And it was awesome !!! That is why you go

Took our daughter a few times, sometimes we brought a friend of hers to round out the group.

Had a fantastic time, rides were good - design was off the charts - the live plays were great and rival Broadway shows, the fireworks and nightly shows were excellent. The parades were fun.

We always did a two day park hopper and went mid-week of her spring break.

Fuck Dismal Land, home of the Tragic Kingdom. When I wanna do the coasters its Magic Mountain and metal detectors.

Never been to Disneyland. In the words of Jim Gaffigan, there's a word for people who go to disneyland without kids. That word is "Weird".
