For those that complain about Bethesda game bugs (especially Skyrim)

Yes, but if she had syphilis you probably wouldn't. Weird thumbs would be like if the game sometimes had a unexplained green sky and blue grass, but these games crash to the desktop, they corrupt save games after 40 hours of game play, have quest bugs that make it impossible to finish the game (and no what to know that it is a bug with out looking it up on the net), and have NPC's that fall though the world but still attack you successfully.This is not weird thumbs, this is a crippling STI that leaves festering sores in places you don't want to fester.

I don't understand. Are you complaining that a game that hasn't been released yet has bugs in it?

One of the buggiest games ever. I really hate bethesda sometimes, their QA department is non existent.

Um, try playing Elemental: WoM. Or Pools of Radiance. You will infinitely readjust your view on what "Buggiest" means.

Contrary to what most people say, I tend to agree with you. I liked Oblivion, and havent played FO/NV.
However, I tried to get into Morrowind several times, and just felt like I was running around the world wasting my time, and never could get into it even though I really wanted to. And I didnt like Fallout 3 either. Guess I must have not chosen the right upgrades or done the right quests or something, because I kept getting killed constantly because the guns seemed weak, and any good gun never had enough ammo.
But I am looking forward hopefully to skyrym. Really want a good RPG, since the last ones I played were Dragon Knight Saga and Dragon Age 1.

HUH? You liked Oblivion, but thought Morrowind was too much running around wasting time?

In Oblivion you could fast travel if you were there before.

Morrowind didn't let you fast travel unless you used the silt striders, hence the pointless walking.

Oblivion didn't have too many bugs that I noticed when I played it back in 2006 on an Xbox 360. Fallout 3 was also pretty good on bugs at release on the Xbox 360 too.

New Vegas had way more bugs on the PC at release and it still does, however it is not a Bethesda game so it doesn't apply to Skyrim.

I think Skyrim will have a few game killing bugs but they will appear after an ungodly number of hours played or after some DLC comes out.

This would follow the trend of the last few Bethesda games.

What it's got going for it, like almost every Bethesda game, is that they're as "sandbox" as any game gets. There are no games out there that put you into the world like Bethesda's do, some try, like Two Worlds or Risen, but none come close. When you can just abandon the main quest in a game and spend 100+ hours roaming the countryside finding random dungeons and quests, that's an amazing game. That what it has going for it.

I'm sure they'll have fast travel in Skyrim of some sort, but it's annoying. The point of a game like Skyrim is to roam the world, that's how you find the real meat of the game, not bee lining between 2 points just so you can click on a map and travel back and forth in the time it takes a loading screen to pop up.

Real gamers don't fast travel :).

The problem I had was, what's the point of doing that in Morrowind? I can beat the game without leveling up. Other games make you want to roam and achieve objectives so you can finish more difficult quests as you level up, and ultimately the main quest. You want to level up and get better equipment. In Morrowind, there's no point in doing so.

This is why I liked Morrowind, you could fly between towns but not to other important locations, and it was quick but not instant. I really did not like Oblivion's mode of being able to fast travel instantly anywhere right from the start.

Since Fallout 3/NV didn't have the "Level Up" issue that Oblivion did, I would suspect that means they learned their lesson. Although that may make me naive, I am more or less hoping that Skyrim will continue with that "Lessons Learned".

To me a well constructed "Sandbox" world could learn a lot from the original Metroid in that You would go everywhere/anywhere in the world provided you had the abilities necessary to open the entrance into that section. Obviously this needs to be on a much grander scale, but the basic concept is the same. There are/should be places that are tough(er) to get into and require experience, abilities and equipment to survive, which lead to even tougher areas.

of course it will have bugs. wich is why i will wait 3-6 months before i get it.

but i will get it. i have gotten nearly every other RPG they have put out and loved them.

aladjusted co-worker who’d share anecdotes of sneaking into barracks, poisoning all the apples in the pantry, waiting for all the guards to eat the poison apples, and then stealing their things.

you could do that in Oblivion? i didnt know that. of course i didnt realize i could poison apples either, i always just went in and started hacking. stupid me!

Good point. I'm in the mood for exploring. I'll probably start up a game of FO3 tonight.

Did you ever play the Dark Brotherhood missions?

There was a quest where you specifically had to plant a poisoned apple on a target, wait for them to eat it to kill them without being suspected.

Pretty neat.

The dark bortherhood quest line was the best thing in Oblivion imo. It was simply awesome.

Will this be like Oblivion with 800 characters that share a whopping 4 voices (2 females, 2 males) and a "OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING!" story line where you could dick around for a thousand hours without actually doing anything and absolutely nothing bad happens. I couldn't make myself believe the plot and felt zero urgency to save the world when I was going around helping old ladies find out what was killing her pet rats. I have a friend who's put hundreds of hours into the game, yet he told me he only actually went in and beat about 4 of the Oblivion gates. Voice acting was the biggest fail ever though, if you're going to have 4 people do 800 voices you might as well just have it all be text only.

...and that's what makes the Fallout games perfect--you have to survive. They don't jsut put you in a "stale repetitive background," as most of the shortsighted critics say. That stale repetitive background is there for a reason--there is very little left of this world--you actually have to survive in what would be a post-apocalyptic world where resources are scare, and wits and ingenuity are your best weapon. It wouldn't be nearly as engrossing if you were plopped into a desolate world like in Borderlands, where there is endless ammo for endless amounts of guns just about anywhere you look. (And i like Borderlands)

those games are pretty much perfect, if you ask me. Buggy, yes, and frustrating, and certainly tedious if you simply have to do everything--but nonetheless, they are perfect and truly immersive worlds.

Blah blah blah. Morrowind was the only good Bethesda game. Oblivion was crap. FO3 was crap. FO:NV was crap. Bunch of internet whiners around here when Bethesda comes up. These were some great games and offer huge play time, with thousands of things and places to explore. There will always be bugs in 'sandbox' games, and auto world-leveling is not terrible enough to go home and kick your dog. ;)

My biggest complaint about Oblivion (aside from the leveling system - which was addressed with mods) was definitely the voices. The fact that all 3 elf races had the same voices was awful. Hopefully the Dark Elves will be returned to their Morrowind form and voice. I saw a recent Skyrim screenshot of a Dark Elf assassin-type character and it looked impressive. Fingers crossed.

Considering that my character was a burly axe-wielding panther-man who could shoot fireballs, this seemed pretty stupid, so I decided to fight the soldiers. Unfortunately, after killing one of them, I got sucked into the ground underneath a bush and died. Oops.
Haha.

Darn invisholes. Worst enemy in the game mayhaps? :D
