Do all of you guys present a false mask when trying to meet girls, because you know your true self would not be attractive to the female side? I think that is kind of sad that your first impressions is a total lie to them.
Umm...not all guys who give their girls flowers are presenting a 'false image'. Sorry to inform you of that....and hey, a cd is cool, but personally I think Cat5 cable is just asking to be rejected.

Just remember, if you've got hot chick friends and go out, then other hot chicks will.... you get the idea.

Good to hear that she didn't run a scream. The CAT5e cable is a nice touch. I once gave a girl a cd in an P3 1 GHz retail box for some occassion. Had her baffled until she opened the box.

OK then... if giving flowers was my type of then then sure! It's not a good representation of me. I don't see why every guy who wants to get a girl has to "play" the romantic even if that's not really them. Of course not all guys are giving false impressions, but if I was to do it, it would be a false impression.

What's wrong with the cat5? Scared to be a little unique? If a girl gets weirded out by it then I don't think we would last anyways...

There is a fine line between being yourself, and letting the girl get used to who you are... I could have given my ex something wrapped in network cable and she would have gotten a kick out of it, but not when we first met. I'm not saying Mucman did a bad thing though. It takes balls to give a girl you've never met in person a Rush CD wrapped in Cat5.

Anyway, glad the date went well Mucman. If anything, you can call it "practice".

Girls like flowers. Most of them don't like cat5 cable. That's why you get them flowers instead of cat5 cable. You don't give gifts that you like, you give gifts that the person recieving the gifts likes. You should go watch the episode of the simpsons where Homer gives Marge a bowling ball for her birthday, and then she almost cheats on him.

Um, the gift was the CD... the network cable was just a touch of flare that seems to be focused on too much :). She likes music, and she likes the bands that I am in to. I agree, giving a girl a spool of ethernet cbale wouldn't be a good gift :)

Shiva112 - It went well because I managed to be composed the whole time and I didn't do anything stupid... well, maybe you guys think I did something stupid :p

Anyways, how about a Vancouver meet? Someone start a thread!

Good point there (although I think flowers and chocolate are corny). It's also true that you're not going to get very far if you just let it all hang out on a first date. Think of it sorta like a job interview. No matter what the normal dress code is at the job you show up to the interview in a shirt and tie. After you get the job feel free to dress down to whatever level they are comfortable with.

Not saying you should have worn a shirt and tie on this date. The point is you'll usually have better luck trying to be little smooth the first few times you're together.

Mucman - I think the idea of giving her a mix CD was cool. I would have also liked the idea of CAT5, but I'm a wanna be geek. ;) I'm always impressed when a guy gives me flowers. (I'm a romantic at heart.) But. . . I think your gift was very cute. :) I'm sorry it didn't turn out to be more romantic, but like you said, you will have a new friend.

I actually saw the cd/cable gift, and it was so sweet! If you knew mucman at all, you'd know that for him to take the time to make a cd and then wrap it in cat5 cable really means a lot! Anyone can go get flowers/chocolates, that's been done over and over and over...but original idea's are what get my attention! Way to go Mucman way to be original and true to yourself!

flavio - I have enough structure in my code, I don't need any in my day to day :) btw, I hate the job inteview process. I can't stand the fact that someone judges you in 30 minutes and only after a few questions.

Aquaman - Then start a thread and get it stickied :p. I would start it myself, but then I would feel like I should be the one organizing it :p

Thanks for the kind words Sealy

Hmm... it looks like all the fine ladies on AT like the CD/cable idea...

You gave her a great gift, the gift of laughter. Her and her friends will be laughing at you for weeks over that "present" .

I think the At.The.Drive.In shirt did you in.
You've gotta get with the times. Cedric and Omar are old news. It's all about Sparta now.
In fact, Sparta will be on Conan tonight... but maybe that's just for us in the US.

She's a big At.The.Drive.In fan, and I have of pic of her wearing one of their shirts. She's probably not how you guys imagine her to be...

Deeko - What are you implying about the ladies on AT? ;) (be careful how you answer this one :p)

Red Dawn - I think my existence is a gift of laughter to the world! An old co-worker of mine said I should be a stand up comic... I would walk on the stage and everyone would just laugh at me :p

Attaboy Muc. When it really counts a women will take an average looking guy with a great sense of humor over some stud who thinks he's God's Gift to women.

Mucman........ I also don't want to organise it ;)

I won't mind an international ATOT conference in Las Vegas or something :) I mentioned it years ago but no one wanted to organise it :)
