For those that believe the Thunderbolt will have bad battery life

I don't care, I simply would never buy it just on principle. That's not a phone worth an absurd 50% price hike. For the last few weeks I was seriously doubting that I would wait for the Bionic, but this might push me to wait.

But if they put a 100% price hike, made the case really shiny, and added a stylized fruit logo, then it'd be a great buy. 😉

Except the iPhone doesn't have a 100% price hike. The Thunderbolt is essentially an EVO, but costs $50 more. No smartphone should cost more than $200 subsidized.

The Thunderbolt is much more than an Evo, better screen, CPU, GPU, stand, 4G, more RAM, and has 40GB of storage, and the 32GB iPhone costs $300.

See sawtx's comment below. Please try to read, the Thunderbolt's specs and features over the Evo have been well documented in multiple threads now.

Its still not a dual core phone. The only thing redeeming about the extra $50 is that they preinstall 32GB memory card.

HTC has been doing this rehash of devices for years.

Back to the topic of Battery life, if any smartphone doesn't match the battery life of the DroidX/iPhone4, its battery life is poor.

No one ever said it was a dual core phone. And that preinstalled 32GB is worth something, given the price of the 32GB iPhone.

Ironically, the Droid 1 has a longer battery life than the Droid X, so your statements really fall flat. 😛

No one had to bring up dual core, we're talking about value and IMO I don't think the thunderbolt is priced competitively.

False,

Droid X is more powerful and has a larger screen, yet it still gets better battery life.

What? The Droid 1 has rather poor battery life as far as any Android device goes, it's not even average. The Droid X has hands down the best battery life of any Android device out right now except the Dell Streak.

The final retail price isn't confirmed yet, keep that in mind. Just saying that other phones that offer 32GB of storage have a 299 price point, and that's without LTE/4G. The 32GB iPhone 4 is 299 on both AT&T and Verizon, and thats with no LTE, non-upgradeable storage, a slower CPU, less RAM, etc. A 299 price point would kinda suck, but its not the deal break you make it out to be. Especially since the price will drop below 199 with a month.

Even with a 1Ghz kernel, my Droid 1 easily goes past the 24hr mark with normal use. Wtih the stock CM 600Mhz kernel, it easily goes past the 32hr mark. Puts it at the top of the charts pretty easily. Yes, I know comparing a rooted, tweaked Droid 1 against a stock Droid X isn't the most fair comparison, but neither is portraying the phones in the worst possible light a fair test either.

Pretty sure the TB will hover around 12-15hr on stock, until it gets some dev love, after which, it'll double. Seems to be par for the course for most Android phones.

Dude, no one gives a shit about your modded up droid battery life. I wouldn't go to a race track with a modded up Vette claiming that a factory base Vette is faster than a ZR1. Your battery life comparisons don't make any sense. I'd rather stick to controlled battery life tests. Thankyou.

Btw the Atrix is on sale for $130 at walmart, now that is a deal.

Yep. Thats a pretty solid deal. Have to watch the small print though, Wirefly and Amazon have contract terms in addition to the carriers terms. Not sure about Walmart though. And AT&T needs to offer deep discounts since their iPhone exclusivity is gone.

We'll likely see the Thunderbolt at discounted prices not too long after launch as well.

MrX8503, we all know you want an iPhone. 😛 Maybe if HTC polished the Thunderbolt's case to a high gloss and stamped a stylized Plum on the back, it'd meet your standards? 😉

We get it bateluer. You think everyone that buys the iPhone buys it simply for the looks and the brand name. Nobody buys it because its a fantastic phone.

Nobody buys it because its a fantastic phone.

Its the attitude of 'iPhoneX is the only fantastic phone' that pushes my buttons. Guy sitting next to me at work automatically buys the latest Apple products, doesn't matter what it is or whether he needs it or not. He just pre-orders as soon as thats an option. 😛

Back, back on topic. The Thunderbolt. Should be a solid phone . . . if Verizon can ever launch it. Their FB and Twitter feeds are choked with people asking about it.

I don't see how the guy sitting next to you has anything to do with me nor what it has anything to do with the DroidX/iPhone4 having better battery life than most smartphones.

A fact is a fact, period. Being an Andriod fan doesn't grant you immunity to being a fanboy.

i tried to get a new phone last nite, the vzw chick said they still didnt have an official release date for the thunderbolt. i may settle for an incredible.

Ok, so the D2 runs 1ghz and gets WAY better battery life. Obviously Anand is comparing stock vs stock. So shouldn't the D1 custom kernels give much better battery life? I really doubt 65nm=>45nm will double your life.

Anyway, 1230 mAh isn't far from 1300 mAh of the Droid 2. So I imagine with proper tweaking the TB should have decent battery life too.

The biggest drain on battery is syncing and radio use.

He buys it cuz it's the newest iPhone. Just like you drool over the new Android phones one by the other, there's nothing wrong with buying either of the new products. So far every new iPhone has brought something new to the table. It's not like a downgrade. And how can you say if the guy doesn't need the new iPhone?

And seriously, the next iPhone is far more worth it than what dual core processors brings at this moment for Android phones. If we had Honeycomb's UI in our phones now that'd be a truly worthwhile feature to have now...

The date is now apparently March 10 and I'm not longer really considering it. This has been such a clusterfuck and I'd rather just wait for the Bionic at this point...

Makes me wonder if there's something going on with their LTE network?

I'd still rather have the Thunderbolt over the Bionic though, unless they leave the Bionic's bootloader unlocked.

What would make you choose the Thunderbolt over the Bionic if both were actually out and similarly priced?

I'd imagine it would be because the bionic is a dualcore phone. I honestly don't know the interest of the thunderbolt, it's vaporware.

Hell, the vzw iPhone is vaporware but at least that was released almost a full month now.
