For instance, this morning, my phone is right next to me charging and at 100% reception yet I get a beep for a VM. I look and there's no indication that anyone called. I check out the VM and ask my friend that called what happened and he tells me the call went straight to VM.

A few days earlier, I get a call during a movie so I shut off the ringer. I look to check if there is a VM after the movie but there is no indication of one. Then about 6 hours later, I get a beep telling me I have a VM and the VM was from person who called during the movie.

This happens an awful lot.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Same.. sometimes the phone locks, ie its on but doesn't accept anything or able to call out.. once you "reboot" power on/off, it gets normal.. the VM problem seems to be on the phone.. same phone, same area, I got 2 e815.. both have same problem..

How do you do this trick in other cell provider such as Cingular? I never heard about this before.

From what I've been told, phones on other networks don't need to be updated like VZW phones do.

Hmm. its been a while since I "updated" my network.. good reminder.. Ill do it now..

i haven't had that issue with my e815 but i did have that problem every now and then on an older phone several years ago. sometimes i wouldn't be notified of a VM until the next day.

Don't blame a network issue on the phone -- the VM issues certainly appear to be network related, since it happens on many models of phones.

The phone locking up and needing to be rebooted is obviously a phone issue. I've seen it happen on my e815, but rarely.

Hey, any of you guys with the E815 also have a problem with the ring setting changing on you?

For some reason, my phone likes to switch to silent mode instead of staying on vibe and ring. Its does this constantly and its annoying.

Does it do it only while it's in your pocket? That happens to me all the time, but only because I carry my e815 and a USB flash drive in the same pocket. Apparently the USB flash drive hits the buttons on the side, because I've never had the phone do that, except when it's in my pocket -- or -- I apply/remove the power charger (in which case it changes profiles).

You know, it does it when its in my pocket but I can also recall times when it wasn't. Maybe I'm imagining it. The strange thing is, I can't figure out how to switch the ring modes by just pressing the buttons. Somehow, I know how to do it when its in my pocket though.

Yes, I've had this happen a number of times & with nothong else in the pocket to press the buttons either... I'm starting to think its a glitch in the phone.

And the strange thing is it always goes into Silent mode. Not Ring or Vibe but always Silent.

Mine changes to other modes, but my guess is that those side buttons get pressed while the phone is in my pocket.

To change ring modes, on the left side of the phone, press the down button, and then the button below that cycles through the modes.

I've heard reports of the phone spontaneously changing modes, so it wouldn't really surprise me. The e815 definitely has faults, but it's the best phone that VZW offers, at the moment, at least as far as my geographical area is concerned.

Your phone cannot inform you that someone called you if it wasn't powered on to receive that call. The only way to know someone called you while the phone is turned off is if they leave you a voice message.

I don't think it is any relation to the phone. I believe it is something within the Verizon service. I have experienced this a few times.... not all that often, and not often enough to bother me.

What I do now is, I know my wife does not have her phone turned off, so if it goes straight to voicemail, I just hang up and call again with no problems. I've actually even experienced this when calling someone with Cingular service as well.

But I will say that after doing the *228 on my wife's phone last week and after getting my new e815 and programming/updating that, haven't seen the problem.

VZW does recommend you update your phone once a month...

Sounds to me like you are definitely pressing the buttons accidentally while it's in your pocket..

That actually is not true. Each network is different. I BELIEVE that Cingular updates automatically over the air as you use it. Verizon has *228, and Spring requires you stop into one of their stores (an actual Spring store/service center, not just an authorized retailer) and have them install the latest software for you. I do not know anything about Nextel or any other carriers, though.

You may want to check out a forum specific for your carrier to see if you can find out.

Well, I meant by dialing an update code... I hadn't heard of other carriers doing that. It makes sense that it would need to be updated periodically somehow. <shrug>

No worries...I wasn't trying to bash on you. I used to have Sprint and would periodically stop in to get the software updated. I have Verizon now and do it every couple of weeks or so. I have a Cingular Blackberry for work, and I haven't looked into it at all.

Just an update to this situation, my phone service recently got so bad that I wasn't getting about 1/2 my calls. I went into the VZ store and had them update my software. It did nothing to solve the problem and I continued to get missed calls and VMs. I called them up to complain and had them agree to give me credit towards a new phone. After my experience with the E815, I don't think I will go for the Razr. I'll probably get a Samsung or LG.

Of course, there are lemons with any phone, but I really do wonder about the network in your area. More and more people in this area are getting E815s, because they "have" a better signal than the other phones that Verizon has right now.

And the E815 is the *only* cell phone that I have found -- at all -- that will work at my house.

Oh, and not sure why I didn't mention this early -- just lock the ring style application, and that'll prevent it from changing without you opening it and typing in your security code.

Same in my area (So Cal). I'll be with a friend who also has Verizon but they'll have 3 bars while my E815 will have 5.

I have no problem with the signal, it always seems to be at 5 bars its just my phone doesn't ring and for the caller, it goes straight to VM.

It really POed me last week because I took a day off to wait for the cable guy and I left him my cell phone number to call when he arrived (my apt intercom doesn't work). Sure enough, my phone didn't ring and it wemt straight to VM. I wasted a day for him and I miss it because of the phone.
