For those of you with nav. in your car...

does nav cost money to use? like is there a monthly fee you pay? and how much is it to get the dvd nav updated?

They're actually very useful, even if you get a pathetic one (like the Becker system in some VW's).

no it's a one time fee. my dad liked the GPS in his RX-8 so much that he got a portable one to use in the other cars. we take it with us everytime we go on a trip. it's great! especially when we went on a road trip looking for colleges. it tells you where to turn and how many feet ahead the turn is. it also tells our current mph to the decimal point, average speed (including stops and not including stops), distance, traveling time, stopped time, max speed and a bunch of other cool stuff. a couple of clicks and you can find the nearest resturant, fast food, etc.

wow what gps you got? i was thinking about a g35 with nav... how good are their system?

It's a Garmin StreetPilot. I'm not sure on the model #. I think it's the 2610.

I wished I had it yesterday when I was coming home from Kennywood and missed the 376 West ramp. Unknown neighborhood near Homestead at 11 PM at night...yeah...that was fun.

I find myself in that situation on a regular basis

I'd seriously recommend it if you drive to unknown locations frequently, as with most of them, if you make a wrong turn, it recalculates the route pretty much instantly I think I'd be bald from stress without it.
