The Sony's are a pain. I have one and I used to put the speaker on top but the center of the frame began to sag slightly. When I got the TV replaced, I decided to put the speaker on a stand in front of the TV angled toward the listening area. Works great!

I have a new Sony that Only has about 4" of space on top and then Slants Downwards. I cust a piece Of Styrofoam To Sit on the Angle Portion and Extend the shelf an Additional 5". Now it Holds the Center Channel rather Securly in the Rear and I used a comnitantion of Velcro and double sided tape to keep the styrofoam and Speaker in place so I can Crank it.

I wouldn't put it below the TV. It probably should be ear level.

If you can't place it at ear level, you can always pitch it upwards so the sound is directed at your head rather than your feet. Just try to minimize the amount of stuff in the way (like, say, a coffee table).

WhereTF are you supposed to put the center channel ?!

Ideally? Right behind your bigscreen.

That'S SICK man😀

I wish I had such a theater....🙁

Which is which though....? I see a Mix of Lexicon and then an H/K...different rooms?

Got a pic of the Lexicon room?😀DD

It's Lex. I had a H/K AVR8000, got rid of it for a Lexicon MC-1, and got rid of that for a Lexicon MC-8 Balanced. Will probably keep this one cause I like it a lot. Here's the current list:

Electronics:

Lexicon MC-8b 7.1 Channel Pre/Pro
Adcom GFA-7807 300w per channel into 8 ohm into 7 channels (actually tested to 600w into 4 ohm, which my speakers are)
Crown K2 2500w bridged at 4 ohm pro amplifier (for subwoofer - still in transit)
Bravo D1 DVI DVD Player
Sony DVP-NS755V SACD Player
Panamax Max5300 (for Lex & minor electronics)
Panamax Max4400 (20amp, for GFA-7807)
Panamax Max4400 (20amp, for Crown K2 amplifier)
3.2Ghz HTPC in Antec Overture case
Gefen 4x1 DVI switcher with remote

Video:

100" 16:9 Stewart Model A tensioned Electric screen with Firehawk fabric. THX microperf'd bottom blackout, custom size borders. 12v trigger (automatically rolls down when Lexicon turns on, up when Lex turns off)
Dukane 9017 1400x1050 native LCOS/DILA projector. It's the twin of JVC's DLA-SX21U. I believe Bruckheimer uses (or at least used, who knows how long he keeps stuff) this in his home theater.

Speakers:
2 Aurum Cantus Music Goddess (fronts)
1 Aurum Cantus MR-C (center)
4 Aurum Cantus Leisure 2 Deluxe (sides & rears)
2 Atlantic Technology 374SR THX Ultra certified Surround Channel Speakers (um, being used as speaker stands for rears)
1 SVS B4+ subwoofer (four high excursion 12" drivers, 200lbs, 2500w continuous power handling, 10000w peak power handling)
1 Atlantic Technology 372PBM 12" subwoofer (until my K2 arrives, then it gets kicked to some other room)

That's pretty much it. Odds and ends here and there, but nothing important.

<---His Mirage Speakers just shriveled up and died🙁

You setup is probably superior to most theaters man.

Try not using a separate center channel speaker. Instead, use the television's speakers for the center channel.

That's a horrible idea, the tv's speakers are not going to be match the other 2 front speakers. Also, most tv speakers are crap.

Yes, plus the center channel in a 5.1 system is probably the most important speaker of the entire system.

Apex you have such a smokin' system!

If I may ask can you give a 'rough' price on how much all that stuff adds up?!

Koing

I might also add it is better under the tv then above it if you can get the centre underneath. If you have a big ass tv and can't I'd get a stand and mount it on that. A shelf isn't going to cut it for most HT or HF nuts caring about vibrations nor is velcro or tape! But they are in to extremes where thick ass 3mm or 5mm metal cases are used for their HT or HF equipment!

Well, the vast majority of that stuff was given to me, or I bought at extreme discounts.

The list on all of that stuff (minus the Aurum Cantus speakers) is roughly $34,500, plus probably $3000 or so on cabling. Unfortunately, because of the length of some of the runs, some cabling got expensive, like the fiber optic DVI.

Aurum Cantus supplies to Red Rose Music, Mark Levinson's company. The fronts that I have, the Music Goddess, is 1 to 2 models above the Red Rose Music Classic Ribbon Speaker, which costs $8000 per pair:

The surrounds & rears (Leisure 2 Deluxe) are an improvement on their Red Rose Rosebud 2's. The cabinet was improved, better crossover, better mid/driver, and stuff like that. The Rosebud 2's go for $3500 per pair.

All in all, if we take the list pricing for the Red Rose, we're at probably $50k or so.

Thankfully, I didn't have to spend anywhere NEAR this level.

Ugh, sheesh. I've never added that together before. That's a nasty sounding number.

Browse around any of the home theater forums though. You'll find people with systems 10x as much. There's some crazy stuff out there.

All in all, I'm more of a video guy than an audio guy though. That's helped keep the cost down. The next step up in video starts getting really really expensive, and I don't want to go there.
