For those of you with cars....

Do you ever find that your friends without cars asks for lifts?

I was speaking with a friend of mine and he joked around asking what the name of my car was since it was the main transportation tranist for this particular group of friends.

That really pissed me off. I told him that if he kept this up, I'd be asking for donations since gas is really expensive (and I ain't charging no one right now)

Thats just how it works. I dont mind driving my friends here or there every now and then, but if we're going somewhere far, I always ask for gas money.

What pisses me off is when people call you up to hang out and then you find out they just want to go off campus.

Its primarily a college thing anyway.

I have one friend who doesn't have a car. But she hardly ever asks for a ride anywhere. Just have to pick her up if we want to hang out with her is all.

You should start asking them to chip in for gas money. You will see just who your real friends are and who is using you for your car.

I own my own cars, but if I ride with a friend to a concert or game, I'll usually leave $5 -$10 in gas money in the car, depending on how far away it was.

not many of my friends have cars. but we also live in nyc where we don't really need a car.

however, if they needed a ride, im more than happy to give em a ride

im in the army and a lot of people here dont have cars...which means i would have to give them rides to and from work...at first it didnt bother me but when these guys start depending on me and dont even try to get their own cars...i got fed up with it..these 2 guys are married, live in govt housing, and get bigger paychecks than the rest of us...and still they dont have a car...

This happens fairly frequently, but them giving you some money (depending on the length of the trip) is standard operating procedure. If they balk at this, tell them that they can find somebody new to mooch rides from.

no, we all are very wasteful and like to drive. and unless they specifically need to go somewhere where i'm not already going or on the way, they will usually offer to pay or buy lunch or dinner.
