For those of you with a CCNA...

For those of you who got your CCNA without actually taking a class for it, how much did you have study up for it? Thinking about making the jump, and I'd much rather buy the book and study up myself as opposed to taking a class or whatever. Already have my BS, solid knowledge of the basics plus some, a fair amount of practical experience, yadda yadda. Just wondering how much work I can expect.

Ever worked with Cisco hardware before? If so, you can probably survive with the book and some testbed hardware (2620) to practice on.

Other than that, or if you're less than confident in your abilities, I'd say pay a visit to your local college. 😛

I'm curious too. I know a fair amount about networking, but mostly with Foundry equipment. The CLI commands are very similar. Guess I need to take a practice exam to see how much I need to study up on.

Unless you are working with cisco equipment or are looking for an expensive resume filler, CCNA isnt really worth it, IMHO. It expires every 4 years and you have to re-test.

edit: apparently its every 3 years, not 4.

I've worked with Cisco routers before in labs when I was in school, but that was probably a year and a half, two years ago I'd have to relearn some stuff.

We have Cisco equipment here at work, but I work with it rarely because we have a couple guys that take care of it fulltime. I guess I'm just looking for a good direction to broaden my horizons and a resume filler. Ideas on a different direction to go?

It expires every 3 years. Mine expired this past Sept 11 🙁 I have no interest in renewing it either (that shows how useful it is heh)
