I don't want to spend too much, nothing over $1000 please.
Min requirements: Must have 2048 x 1536 resolution and at most a 0.24 mm aperture grille.

i think 19inches are quite good enough... i would recommend my KDS 19inch Avitron if it wasn't discontinued or the company bankrupt.

21" currently, but if I replace it, I will definately get a bigger one.

Are you sure they went bankrupt?? They have a new line out to replace the AV line. It's the XF (Xtra Flat) line.

If you want an AG monitor and you want 2048x768 resolution, then I haven't seen any better than the Cornerstone P1750. It costs only $709 + shipping. However it barely missed your 0.24 mm (it is 0.25 mm). I think the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro is probably the next best.

Edit: Monitor quality is a subjective thing to measue. What I may like (clear, crisp pictures) may not be what you like. I highly suggest you look at them if you can. Too bad most B&M stores won't carry a 21+ inch monitor...

I'm buying this monitor to compliment my new system that I am putting together. I've never had a top of the line computer and I figure that now is the time.

This monitor will look good with my dual athlons and geforce3. :)

The cornerstone definitely looks good for the money.

Can anyone really tell the difference between .24 and .25?

..... ,but I still really like the Mitsubishi.

I have the viewsonic PF815 22". BEST monitor i've ever seen. Stick with the 22" true flat. You won't regret it.

I bet the majority of people couldn't tell the difference between a quality flat and a quality round when you get to the 22" sizes. The newer/bigger they get the flatter a round screen is.

I would go with the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u or the Samsung 1200NF. By the way, are you planning on going blind?

Get a LCD. For about $13XX, you get 20". Look much cooler with your top of the line equipment. :D

777php was very clear on the monitor requirements (most people who ask about monitors have nothing decided yet). You broke every single requirement listed. LCDs are great for some applications and are a piece of junk for other applications (for example maybe 777php needs to read text at several different resolutions).

The reason why I need such a large monitor is becuase I do a lot of graphic design/video editing/and web development so I need all the screen space I can get. That is why I would rather not get a LCD, they are nice and small but I would give up too much on picture quality.

I'm gonna go take a look at the iiyama vision master pro 512, viewsonic PF815, and the samsung. I don't want to jump into such a pricey investment.

BTW... NEC/Mitsu has a $100 rebate on 4 monitors with the 2060u being one of them.

Rebate

Plus dell has %10 off all monitors.....tempting.....

Samsung 1200NF. .24mm dot pitch, 2048x1536@75Hz, 20" viewable, powered built-in USB hub.

Specs

NEC FP1370. .24mm dot pitch, 2048x1536@80Hz, 20" viewable. $75 rebate.

Specs

Samsung 900NF. .25mm dot pitch (doesn't matter as much for smaller monitors), 1600x1200@75Hz, 18" viewable. ~$385 including shipping from Techonweb.com.

Techonweb.com has the 1200NF for $639, less than $700 shipped (according to Pricewatch). The store also has a 6.4/7.0 on Reseller Ratings, so no buyer-beware applies.

BTW, if you plan on doing a lot of that stuff, pick up a secondary monitor instead of one big one. You get twice (or even three times!) the rreal estate (assuming the monitors are the same). Pick an AGP Matrox G400/450/550 Dualhead card, an additional PCI card like the 3dfx Voodoo 3 PCI or ATi Rage PCI, a TwinView nVidia card, an ATi Radeon VE, an Appian AppianX (four displays out of one PCI slot), Appian Jeronimo, Appian Hurricane, etc. There are lots of options.

I'm running a Matrox G400 AGP Dualhead with a Samsung 700NF and a Viewsonic GF775. In Photoshop I have my work on the primary monitor, and all the toolbars on the second. A lot better than one big one, I'd say. Plus, if you get two 18" viewable monitors, you get almost twice as much display area as one 20" viewable monitor for practically the same price.

EDIT: Sorry about the triple posting.

two monitors would take up a bit too much space on my desk. while it is a good idea I'd like to go with a single monitor setup.

Well then I guess you'll just have to get a bigger desk, eh? :)

In all seriousness, I fall back to my suggestions of either the 1200NF or the FP1370 (between which the 1200NF is cheaper).
