You're a fvcking idiot. Tell a teacher, fireman, police officer, etc $85k isn't a lot of money.

Hate to break it to to you buy fire fighters and police officers in SoCal make a lot with overtime, close to $110k. So yeah I will tell them 85K ain't a lot of money.

Out of curiosity, all of you make over 85K/yr....and these are the cars you choose?

C'mon

if you lived in nyc, you'll see how far 85k gets you....(absolutely nowhere)

You can't even afford a car in NYC on $85k/yr.

why would you even WANT to own a car in NYC?

parking fees alone would prolly cost you 20k a yr ;x

that's a negative... i pay $325/month.

It's the same here in NY. Their base pay is awfully low (talking high 20s to low 30s starting) but they get VERY generous OT bonuses which can easily double their pay.

SoCal and NY are bad examples. Those are the extremes in cost of living in the country. So, $85k is still a lot for those professions in most parts of the country. Thank you.

That's not necessarily true. There have been people throughout history who have made big contributions despite being born rich. I think Alprazolam is in an interesting situation, personally. Most people don't amount to much in the end, but have the excuse that they were always trying to make ends meet, and never found the time to do the things they wanted to do. Alprazolam is able to do whatever he/she wants, AND has to resist the temptation to live a life in pursuit of pleasure (assuming, of course, that people should want to achieve great things).

I would say that in some ways, being born rich and amounting to something is a bigger achievement than scrabbling your way up from the gutter. Poor people usually don't lack motivation because it's forced on them. Really worthwhile motivation in a rich person has nowhere to come from but within. I think that's the point of Buddha having been born rich, in Eastern mythology.

SoCal, in no way, represents reality for 99% of the rest of the nation.

On a side note, if any of you believe what Alprazolam is posting then I feel sorry for you.

I think you are right.

Neither NYC or SoCal should be used to represent the average living situation in the country. Additionally figuring in double over-time should not be used to represent the average salary in the country. Finally the average individual yearly income is nowhere near $85,000 and you would have to be nuts to think so.

i work in nyc and make over $85k.

married, mortgage, 2 kids

we drive a 1997 toyota rav4 and a 1992 mitsubishi eclipse. i use the eclipse to go back and forth to the train station. my wife stays at home with the kids and uses the rav to run errands and stuff.

we will probably get a new car soon or at least in the new year when bonuses come out. the only reason we're looking for a new car is that my wife can't sit in back with the kids when we go places because both car seats take up all the room. we also can't carry any other passengers if we go anywhere as a family.

I'm in the military so it's kinda hard to judge exactly what I make (I get a lot of tax free "allowances"). My take home pay (net) is $70k so I think that's equivelent to >85k.

Anyway, I'm married with 3 kids
04 Chevy Suburban
04 Chevy Monte Carlo
1972-75 EA-6B Prowler - I can get it up over 500 mph below 1000' :p
