Is this movie one you would see with a date?

I say yes, some of my friends swear to me that it would send the wrong message.

I argue on the premise that it's psuedo-romantic in that the dude went out of his way to make things better for this girl, even though it screws him over - and is content with that. Kind of a "You over me" type deal.

They argue that because the two didn't end up together, it would send the message that "We aren't made for each other. Bye." - and I find that totally assinine and flawed.




We got into a violent argument over this.

Okay, perhaps I fouled up the wording a bit. I meant to ask if this was the kind of movie you'd see with a girl, period - I didn't mean to put it in a theater setting.

And this is of course, purely hypothetical. A bunch of us were sitting around, cutting the connectors off a billion IDE cables (pure braindead work, but it produces a TON of income) and were watching movies while we did so.

Somewhere in the middle of the movie, when I figured out what was going on, I said "This is the kind of movie you'd watch with your girlfriend" - and they proceeded into their typical "women are inferior, need to be told how to think and what to do, belong in the bedroom and kitchen, and will sleep with anybody if you turn your back for just a moment" tirade, telling me that watching this movie with a girl would ruin any and all chance of you ever having sex again.

Yeah ya cheap SOB. Is this a $2 theater? How about a NEW movie? I guess it depends on what the situation is, but she might think you are cheap going to see an old movie like that.

OK, now that you have clarified that this is not at a theater, yeah should be fine. It's a movie. There are many other movies that I would think would be far worse to see on a fifth date.

On a side note we had a $2 theater that had older movies that we used to go to alot. Wasn't as busy and saved some money. Not something I'd take a date to at least not at first.

get the directors cut (the ifilm one) and choose the ending with the happy ending, or play the one where he kills himself in the womb. girl will be sad.
any drama/psychologic thriller is good to watch with a girl because you may end up talking about it when the movie is over.

Donnie Darko is great. Derailed (get past rape scene, makes sense later), and Memento are other greats.
im big into the drama/psychologic thriller genre though.

I would only go see it if you know the girl enjoys psychological thriller type movies. I thought it was a good movie but I really enjoy the genre. I realize a lot of people don't though, so I'd only see it with her if you know she likes those type of movies.

I wouldn't watch it with anyone whom your relationship with mattered at all. It's so confusing that it can be interpreted many different ways. The last thing you want to do with your girlfriend is get into an argument.

Computer recycling. Ribbon cables, WITH OR WITHOUT the connectors attached, are a certain price. But if you cut off the connectors, they're worth more. (if you leave them attached, the gold is waste in the copper recovery process - there's not enough to bother recovering - if you cut the cable, the amount of gold and copper are both substantial enough to recover)

If you want to watch a good movie together, then get a good movie. The movie doesn't have to send a specific message relevant to you and your SO in order to be good. There's a bit too much plot in The Butterfly Effect for it to be a good chick flick. In my experience the ladies tend to like the boy-meets-girl-boy-loses-girl-boy-does-something-insanely-romantic-to-get-girl-
back type of movie when on a date.

Why would you avoid watching a movie with your gf because it *might* lead to a debate afterwards? I think movies that make you think and lead to interesting discussions afterwards are the best. You can learn a lot about a person and even yourself by engaging other people in thought-provoking discussions. Even if your viewpoints differ, that doesn't mean you can't still respect each other's views.
