See that 10% increase on the Haswell? Now figure out the performance delta in absolute terms and see what % increase that same performance delta would bring over a Piledriver...

Hint: much more than 10%.

Your thread title was promising. I thought it would contain nuggets about how it's bearable to have only 10% IPC increase because, as I thought you would elucidate, there are good tradeoffs and new features, and how overall it would be a net win with Haswell. Instead...

OK, so only pro-AMD people and AMD fanboys would ever think to complain about the small IPC increase of Haswell? Right.

We have enough threads bickering about AMD vs Intel. We don't need really another.

A very reasonable and impartial assessment, Intel17. I can see now why intel giving it's user base #&%!-all to upgrade with for the last two generations is acceptable as long as the competition is weaker.

Ok but Haswell CPU architecture will be competing with Steamroller. Piledriver was never meant to go against Haswell. Intel should know this.

Look at where PD sits now in multi-threaded performance. In many cases, it's not far behind 4770K. If Steamroller brings 20-30% increase in IPC, AMD will win in all of these benchmarks:

The last time AMD rested with A64, Intel smoked them with C2D. Not saying AMD will do anything close but if Intel decided to take a break, that gives AMD 2 years to seriously make up for it with Steamroller and Excavator. In many multi-threaded apps, an 8-module Steamroller with 20-30% IPC increase could beat Haswell 4770K.
