For those of us Who Worked at Best Buy!!!!!!!!!!!

Fairfax, Virginia. Lying about service plans, adding service plans to orders even though the customer said that they didn't want it, asking the customer atleast 5 times if they want the service plan, overtime hours with no overtime pay, supervisors who don't know anything about the product that they sell.

Formerly Overland Park, KS. The usual lying/salesman type BS. As far as BB specific though, encourage to mislead customers by managers, I think that's normal in retail though. Management demanded we meet goals that were quite literally unmeetable. Managers that knew absolutely jack about product but talked to employees condescendingly if they didn't know every minor detail. Supervisors on powertrips.

As completely worthless as my managers and supervisors were, they though they were hardcore. Especially the newly promoted department supervisors. They thought they were gods but would crumble the instant a regular employee challenged them.

I guess I can't complain too much. Working for Circuit City and Best Buy paid the bills through college, and I was out pretty soon after I graduated. I also made more than most other employees and supervisors. I got lots of satisfaction from knowing I was making more than the punks that were trying to powertrip over me all the time.

Austin, Texas. Supervisors Kept pushing us to sell heaters. Supervisors were eventually laid off.

Riverside, California. Still employed at BB.

Supervisors get bonuses if they meet their goals for the month. Regular employees just get bitched at if their Sup doesn't meet their goals.

I graduate on December 12th. Hopefully I'll be out of this job in the coming months.

I worked for the Best Buy in Flint, MI over ten years ago.

It was a great job, but I could have done without the customers.

Which bestbuy in OP?

lol Secaucus NJ

The lying sack of crap BB employee tried to get me to puchase a Points Rewards card for 10 bucks tleling me there is a 50 dollar GC instantly.

Get to the register later changes the tune and tells me it'll be mailed to me.

NY, NY - Our manager would go bonkers every time a thief would hit our store. The kicker wasn't the actual theft, but, rather the fact that we couldn't stop the thief to sell them an extended service plan on the product. 😕

rofl.

"Go ahead, take it! But you better buy a god-damn extended service plan!!" or a sign that reads, "Thieves welcome, as long as you buy an extended service plan."

Manager couldn't grasp the concept that I was in College and my family was out of state. When I told him I was not going to be spending Thanksgiving or Christmas in town he said that wasn't acceptable, so I made the easy decision and told him that my current shift was my last one. I graduated 6 months later and haven't looked back yet. And haven't shopped at best buy since now that I know how much they mark up the prices. Luckily my sister-in-law was dumb enough to ignore my advice and she works there so I exploit her discount.

I worked in Rockville, MD one summer for 31 days. FYI, you get your discount after you work 30 days.

where to start.
-it sucked unloading a truck until after midnight when you were scheduled until 9:50.
-it sucked getting pressed by managers to sell service plans when you get no commision and get your $7.50/hr regardless.
-it sucked when i was called on the loud speaker to talk to a manger, and the customer at the door, when questioned if they received a speech about a service plan, told them they did not and mentioned my name, and the manger wrote me up for not offering the service plan on the DVD player, when i had been working in the TV area, having nothing to do with a dvd sale.
-it sucked having meetings at 8am in the store on sundays. good thing i never went and got written up 2 times.

there are plenty more. at the time, i was currently working my normal job. the whole reason i started working there was becausee i wanted to get a new TV as well as home audio stuff. so what better place to work than BB. my whole plan was to work 30 days, make about $1500 or so at the job, get my discount on the 30th day (which i did and saved $1500), and quit the 31st day. my plan went as planned 🙂

Hey, I worked for the same location back at the end of 2000. I was told to mislead customers as much as possible, shove worthless crap into their cart without asking, etc. Also being told at 9:30 (when my shift ended at 9) that they needed me to unload the truck until 11pm. I don't suppose the PCHO supervisor was Chris while you were there?

kennesaw, ga. worked as a computer technician (tech bench)

the worst part, by far, was the customers. I rarely worked on the sales floor, but when I did it was in general the rudest people I've ever had to deal with. On top of that, the sales staff aren't trained properly.

Got some interesting things happen. I remember this one pc that came in with roaches all in it. One of the techs took the cover off and three came out, there were numerous dead roaches in it. He put it in a plastic bag, we called the customer, and refused to service it.

Another time this guy had his cdrom held in with styrofoam and coat hangers. static city.

Another this guy got so pissed off that we wouldn't replace his cellphone (that was dropped in a pool, mind you) that he threw it at a tech and the phone busted the kids nose. The guy was taken to jail

As a college student, the dorms are shut down during winter break. No way was I going to pay for a hotel for 3 weeks while making $6.50/hr. I know that they could have gotten plenty of local high school kids to work fill in for me over the break. I'm definitely not looking back now though. Since I've graduated, I know that I make more money, work less hours and am much happier with my current job than anyone that works at best buy.

Elk Grove, CA. Quit after having to unload the truck well past midnight despite being scheduled to be off at 9pm. On top of it, being frisked by the manager on the way out.
